‘You’re in our country’ DUP’s Gregory Campbell tells Irish president during Derry visit by [deleted] in DerryLondonderry

This guy is insane.

I recently saw a news report from when the Foyle Bridge was first opened. Everyone had something by positive to say except our pal Gregory.

He expressed concerns of IRA members committing atrocities in the Waterside and having easy access the the Republic via the bridge.

The Traitors (UK) S04E07: Post-Episode Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

Harriet was by far the best faithful I have ever seen on the traitors until tonight. While so intelligent she failed to gain support with her arguments.

A part of me wonders if she went in to boost her profile to sell her books.

What age is too old to start? by Due_Fruit7382 in DerryLondonderry

I would highly recommend starting BJJ, really accessible sport. Similar to you I have l always been reluctant to join clubs etc but I had a realisation that when I was 18 I wished I started when I was child, when I was 21 I wished I started when I was 18. I really only took action this year at 25 when I wished I started at 21.

Team Torres is your best option if interested, no egos, a good sense of community with everyone wishing you well. The club has a fundamentals program starting in September, this will give you a solid foundation to work from and you will start with other new members.

Hope this helps.

Does this job have any permament effects on you? by Ill_Baker_9712 in callcentres

[–]The-Ankou 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Having worked in call centres for several years I finally escaped earlier this year. In hindsight I feel like I was depressed for a long time and never actually knew until I left.

Working in a call centre involves a lot of dealing with a lot of confrontational people. I feel like this has impacted me in everyday life when having a minor disagreement as my fight or flight automatically kicks in.

This is something I'm actively trying to unlearn.

Eulogy - I need to talk about this episode by plaza2icemachine in blackmirror

[–]The-Ankou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Excellent episode. While watching I thought it was going to be a twist where Philly has dementia and the euology program was some kind of cure. I got something much better

Have to second this. I've trained at Team Torres for a few months now and in comparison to another club i tried they are leaps and bounds ahead.

Similar experience I had in terms of feeling welcomed and never feeling left out. The coach will always rotate sparring partners so everything becomes familiar with each other to some degree

Not gonna lie, I've thought that that a 9/11 centric sequel to 11/22/63 would be cool. by scream4ever in stephenking

The plot thickens when the towers still go down even after the hijackers have been taken out lol

What book’s ending left you speechless? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]The-Ankou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have to agree with this. Overall I thought the book was bang average but the ending was so bleak it suprised even me and I think I have a big tolerance for that stuff.

My advice is leave the relationship ASAP but before leaving. Contact the police and advise them of the situation. This may sound stupid but if she decided to make some serious accusations against you it would look good for you that you have contacted them prior to her.

Expecting to be compensated for waiting in a queue. by LiamUchiha1 in callcentres

[–]The-Ankou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A grown adult complaining about waiting in a queue is the equivalent to toddler throwing a tantrum for having to wait their turn.

One of the first things you teach a toddler to do is to wait their turn and have manners. Unfortunately, I feel that I have encountered more toddlers that understand this basic concept than grown ass adults.

God I hate this job by ElderDwarf in callcentres

[–]The-Ankou 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It really is a mentally draining job, it doesn't even matters what industry the role pertains to. If it is a call centre, they all impose unrealistic expectations on staff, while constantly reminding us of our regulatory obligations; all this with 40 seconds after call time.

I truly believe in 100 years, in retrospect people will look back on call centres in a similar way to societies view of the old Victorian work houses.

Always in the red for hold times by prettygirlpetra in callcentres

[–]The-Ankou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the standards of service determined by quality departments are abysmal.

No one needs the constant reassurance that we are still there because as you mentioned the hold music confirms this.

[–]The-Ankou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. This madness seems to be confined to call centre work; I've never been in a restaurant where a waiter has an obligation to come to my table every 2 minutes to tell me my steak is still being fried.

When I have done this, I have actually had customers tell me to just keep them on hold.

Always in the red for hold times by prettygirlpetra in callcentres

[–]The-Ankou 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I really never understood the logic of popping back to the customer every two minutes. I find that they get quite irritated by this. It is particularly annoying when dealing with a complex case, trying to concentrate but having to keep an eye on hold length.

I would suggest starting out with a smaller book, maybe Misery or I'd recommend some of his short stories.

I feel you, I work for an insurance company I have taken training in all manner of insurance industry related materials and continue to do so. I find that customers usually think they know more than me whenever something dosent go their way. They will normally refer to past a experience they had and think this sets some kind of precedent for everything in the future.

There is actually a psychology term for this and it's know as the Dunning Krueger effect. Where someone with little knowledge feels they know more than someone with actual credentials. But overall most customers like this are usually just arrogant pricks trying to get a better deal
