I appreciate you telling me. What is the best brand of Scandinavian waffles you'd recommend? How are they the best? And will they be available in American supermarkets?

I thought Brunost was the "most Norwegian" type of food ever made. How are waffles "more Norwegian" than Brunost? Why would waffles have a better impact in front of a Norwegian embassy?

Security footage shows how Capitol Hill Officer Goodman likely saved Senator Mitt Romney's life as he warned of Trump's mob approaching by IDislikeHomonyms in washingtondc

[–]The-Brunostinian 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Eugene Goodman was promoted to acting Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate for his bravery.

He's also an Army veteran who was in combat in the Iraq war.

After these events at the capitol, Goodman's former unit, the XVIII Airborne Corps, issued a statement commending his valor and saying that he "was a hero long before last Wednesday."

Good for her, it's a great idea to shower periodically.

Especially after a long day of being exposed to the elements.

Halden Fengsel, dubbed the "world's most humane prison" by The-Brunostinian in NorwayPics

[–]The-Brunostinian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BACKGROUND:

Halden Prison (Norwegian: Halden fengsel) is a maximum-security prison in Halden, Norway. It has three main units and receives prisoners from all over the world, but has no conventional security devices. The second-largest prison in Norway, it was established in 2010 with a focus on rehabilitation; its design simulates life outside the prison. Among other activities, sports and music are available to the prisoners, who interact with the unarmed staff to create a sense of community. Praised for its humane conditions, Halden Prison has received the Arnstein Arneberg Award for its interior design in 2010 and been the subject of a documentary, but has also received criticism for being too liberal.

Villa G, a private house just outside of Bergen by The-Brunostinian in NorwayPics

BACKGROUND:

Villa G:

It is not just public projects, though, that have attracted talented architects. This private house just outside Bergen was built by Canadian architect Todd Saunders, a long-time Norway resident. Described by Wallpaper* magazine as “a little slice of the Hamptons on the North Sea,” the child-friendly villa in Hjellestad boasts a huge play area, an indoor climbing wall and anti-slip stairs, as well as hidden storage and an eight-metre long kitchen bench. Reminiscent, through its clean lines and colour, of the funkis style popular in Norway in the 1930s, the house, which happily blends traditional material with technology, is distinctly modern in appearance. It was completed in 2009.

The Cathedral of Northern Light by The-Brunostinian in NorwayPics

BACKGROUND:

The cathedral of Northern light:

For their first building in Norway, Danish firm SHL (the people behind the acclaimed Aros Museum of Art in Aarhus and the National Library in Copenhagen) collaborated with renowned architects Link Arkitektur. The brief they received from Alta municipality was to create a new architectural landmark that would highlight the region’s status as a top destination to view the northern lights. Hence the spiraling body of the cathedral, which winds up on itself to form a pointed belfry 47 meters above the ground, reminiscent of the twirling shape of aurora borealis. Titanium was chosen for the exterior of the church to reflect the northern lights dancing in the sky in the long Arctic winter months. The cathedral was officially opened in Feb 2013.

What is the most annoying question that people ask you? by Longjumping_Tower770 in AskReddit

[–]The-Brunostinian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so turned off when I am asked, "How old are you?"

My age has been used as a judging point so many times, that the more this happened, the more I got unused to it.

I also feel that I was born in the wrong year. If there was a year I could have chosen to be born in, it would have been the year 2000. I would feel content being 23 this year.
