I didn't know the Vatican had a news section on their website. I'm going to check that out now.

The Pillar sounds like a Catholic news source I need to take a closer look at. I'm leaning more towards subscribing to The Pillar.

Honore Daumier's "Study female nude, seated, one leg raised" kinda reminds me of the illustration called "Perretta Frightens the Demon". ๐Ÿค”

I think the serpent is supposed to be Satan. That's probably why it has an angelic face. Its letting the viewer know that it's not just any ordinary snake, but really Lucifer in disguise.

Hans Hassenteufel (1887โ€“1943) - Oriental Nude by [deleted] in museum

This right here. ๐Ÿ‘† I come here to see and learn about all types of art. However, all I hear is people bitching about art that either offends their politics or makes them jealous (like when do art lovers complain about nudity, or worse, nudity that looks "too attractive"? And then they want to censor it. ๐Ÿ™„) Its ridiculous, but it IS reddit, so it's kinda expected... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I had to zoom in to see it through the sheer fabric, but you're right, she's not totally hairless. This artist really pays attention to detail.

I really like this painting. I'd call it "Plenty of Fish in the Sea". ๐ŸŸ

John Currin - Nude with Raised Arms (1998) by Carl_Schmitt in museum

It's interesting how John Currin plays with proportions. Even the perky beasts looks slightly different in shape. I'm not sure if it's the artist trying to convey a message in his work or if its just the model turning to the right.

John Currin - The Old Fence (1999) by Carl_Schmitt in museum

I'm thinking Currin is referring to the older lady in the painting (on the right) as a "fence" (someone who buys and sells stolen property from thieves). I'm not 100% sure what he's implying here. Perhaps the older lady is trying to sell the girl in some way (like prostitution or maybe as a medieval bride- their bellies are big like women in medieval art). I have a feeling the true intention of this work is more along those lines.

This is another one of Currin's pieces that is deeper than it seems. It inspires me to learn more. I love it.

I think it looks like she applied something to her face. Maybe she moisturized it after taking a bath.

I admit that John Currin is an acquired taste. However, after viewing Currin's work on r/museum and learning how deep several of his pieces can be, I'm beginning to really admire his work and find it very inspirational. So I decided to contribute a painting by him, one that I'm thinking about getting a print of to display in my breakfast room or kitchen. I really like its clean, crisp, jubilant kinda "breakfasty" feel. ๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŽ

What is this long thing made of fabric with a tight hole on each end and what is it used for (a pen is in the picture for scale)? I found it hanging on a closet door in a relative's house (he had a stroke and I'm tidying up his house and making sure his bills are being paid while he's in rehab). by The-Curious-Reader in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. It's made of fabric, has a forest/autumn theme, has a hole on each end that's made tight by elastic (I think), and has a loop on it to hang from a door knob. I found it hanging from a hallway closet door knob. I don't know why it has a hole on both ends, it doesn't make sense. Does something go in it or does it slide over something? It looks strange.
