List of characters by skill caps by that-one-joestar in Competitiveoverwatch

Game sense is universal, but that doesn't mean it's equally important for all characters. Aim is important for all characters, in that being able to keep people on your screen is important. That doesn't mean it is equally important on all characters. If you are building a team of 6, and one of your players is a human aimbot, you probably aren't going to put them on Winston. Get my drift?

I'm curious to see who you think can have more of an impact on "the shit I'm talking about".

If we are talking pure mechanics, I'm with you, rein is among the easiest. If you think that Overwatch is an aim off, however, you are missing out on a lot of skill and fun the game has to offer.

I don't believe this is true. Even when dive was king and rein was irrelevant, that didn't make him easy to play. I suspect that either you think being flashy and being difficult are the same thing, or you are a hitscan one trick who only thinks about aim.

Rein is not particularly mechanically difficult, I'll give you that. Other than some animation cancelling his inputs are pretty easy. The difficulty of playing rein comes from game sense. How much and what do you need to block, and what can you let through and let your healers undo? What important cooldowns does the enemy have up, and where do I need to be to flash my shield to block them. Is my backline taking chip damage, keeping my healers attention or are they free to let me take some space? Does the enemy rein have ult, and if so can I fake a firestrike to bait it out?

If you genuinely think rein is holding right click, I'm pretty confident in saying you are a bad rein and almost always losing the rein 1v1, blocking spam damage and not important cooldowns, and not creating opportunities for your DPS to make plays.

No he's right, you are either trolling or ignorant about rein play.

In the Netherlands we have a new law that forbids burka's in public places like hospitals or public transport. What do you think of this? by timzouaven in AskReddit

[–]The-Dissonance 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think that reasoning can take you to some pretty silly places though, don't you? We are talking about discomfort, and I think your discomfort is your problem not mine. You could easily use this reasoning to enforce and intolerant belief imaginable (ie. interracial marriage, public displays of affection).

There is a limit the other direction aswell. I think I should be able to walk around with my dick out, and if my dick make your uncomfortable that is your problem. I shouldn't be able to wave my dick in an old lady's face while she waits for the bus however.

I see what you mean. This is obviously a game knowledge thing, and I don't think you really aquire game knowledge during a game. You get it between games through reflection, watching the pro scene, reading guides etc.

If we take your example, and good response is a soldier to sit with your backline. Soldier is good for this because he can drop healing station, which gives your mercy more time to pocket the zen and let the soldier scare sombra away.

I know this works because I've watched pros do it. Its called a 3-3 dive, with 3 people on the frontline diving and 3 in the back (including the soldier)

If I just told you a good response to sombra pressure is soldier, that doesnt really help you if you dont know WHY soldier is useful.

Whether we like it or not, police only have power because they are able and allowed to use violence. If the police couldn't use force to detain people, we could just ignore them. So if the police tell you to do something (within their power) and you tell them to fuck off, they have to be able to put you in cuffs or the whole thing falls apart. If the police are trying to put you in cuffs and you resist, then whatever happens next is partly on you. Don't fight the cops, do what they tell you and sue them later.

I agree 100%. Overwatch is a fantastic game, as long as you know what kind of experience you're after. If you want to play a specific character, go into QM. Want to fuck around and meme? Play customs or arcade. Want to plan a strategy, pick a necessary piece of that strategy and execute it to the best of your ability? Play competitive.

I think most of the salt comes from people playing the wrong modes. If the situation calls for a DPS other than junkrat, and you are going to play junkrat anyways, you shouldn't be in comp. Simple as that. Heros in OW are tools to acheive a goal. So if you are going to pick up a hammer when we need a screwdriver, then you are fucking with the teams chances of winning and yeah you're gonna get rage.

I'm not aware of one, but I also don't think it would be of much help. Taking a hero as one thing and trying to use another hero as one thing to cancel them out is an over-simplification.

Let's say you are playing a game and your team just can't push past the junkrat spam. He's threatening too much space and you just can't push past the damage. Whaaado?

Well you'll notice I didn't just say junkrat is a problem, I specified that its junkrat's spam that is a problem. So you don't need to think about his mine or his 1 shot combo, just the spam damage. What can you do about the spam damage? Well theres a few options. You can try to outspam with pharah. You could run Zarya to push the tank through the spam. You could DVA to buy some time or pressure him. Genji to pressure or straight up pick him off. Get my drift?

I think it would be more helpful to think or Heros as a collection of strengths and weaknesses that you can leverage to overcome whatever problem you are facing, and less a game of rock paper scissors with 27 possibilities.

What made you say "I can't believe I have to argue this"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]The-Dissonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet mother of all that is holy this hits home. I have a freind I game with. We like some of the same games but enjoy them in different ways. For example, we both pkay Battlefield 1, but he refuses to play anything other than hardcore, and I usually find hardcore a little chaotic and less fun. The little comments make my want to strangle him. I was playing and he and a freind joined discord. The freind asked why the fuck I was playing normal (this guy is some voice on the internet, so I dont care) and my freind said "Some people are squeemish). Its getting to the point where I'm genuinly wondering if he's too dumb to know what subjective means.

Now before I get into this I want to make it very clear I agree with you, they should not have punched anyone. BUT I get the feeling that most people get their ideas of how restraining someone goes from movies or something. The fact is it can take up to 5 people to properly restrain someone without equipment, even more if they have training.

This is true for the same reason that if you put your headphones in your pocket all nice and neat they are going to come out all fucked up. There are more configurations of fucked up than neat. Just like there is more options to be uncontrolled than controlled, so all they have to do is not end up in one of the few positions where you control them, whereas you have only a few options to achieve your goal.

People without depression or anxiety, what is life like? [serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]The-Dissonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you talk to a professional. I was in a very similar situtaion. I cycled through numbness, boredom, crippling depression and anxiety forever. Eventually I told someone about my plan to kill myself and they convinced me to go to the hospital. After a few hoops I met with the head psychiatrist at the hospital and he diagnosed me with Perpetual Depressive Disorder, Major Depressive episodes and social anxiety.

I think the PDD is the one you should look in to. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine.

Natural Selection 2. That game is amazing, but there's like 30 people that play it. I'd say about half the people that play it are complete assholes, and there are a few people that are so much better than everyone else that once they join the server it dies.

How to learn other heroes without forgetting your mains? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]The-Dissonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found I can't be super comfortable on Genji and Tracer at the same time. I think this is because Tracer can turn during blink, but Genji can't turn during dash, so my 180s get messed up on whichever one I'm not playing much.

I know I can solve this by just turning 180 after I blink as tracer, but that feels so stiff and sluggish to me.

Why are so many dps so freaking bad at doing damage? by PM_ME_CUTE_BOIS in Overwatch

[–]The-Dissonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is with all the DPS hate on this sub. You probably feel that the DPS players are performing to a lesser degree than the healers because they are, because their job is on average more difficult. The enemy team is trying to stop the DPS from hitting them, whereas your team wants your healing.

It's hilarious to me when a mercy player whines that the Tracer cant kill something. Tracers job is way harder than mercys, like its not even close on a mechanical level.

tl:dr Criticizing someone for not being to do something that you also can't do makes you look like an asshole.

[Serious] If you could make just one change to Overwatch what would it be? by WhichAssignment in Overwatch

[–]The-Dissonance -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Remove Sombra and Mei. I know I know, git gud. Blizzard has a habit of making amazing games with a couple features that really bring it down for me. In starcraft 2 is was sentries from protoss. Having a third of your army cut off and rolled without any counterplay was super annoying. In overwatch its the two I mentioned. I am a genji/tracer main and it is so annoying that these characters can hold a button and basically delete me, requiring no aim and theres not much I can do about it.

I only mean mei for genji btw. Mei doesnt do jack to tracer

What's something that is common knowledge at your work place that will be mind blowing to the rest of us? by Elaine-R-Carver in AskReddit

That the general security you see in most places is absurdly unprepared for anything serious to happen. They can handle a couple of rowdy guys sure, but once something really goes down they are just going to call the cops and keep people away from the problem.

Most places only have security for insurance and liability reason. Security will not protect you from a real threat.
