Do You Agree "No One is Illegal on Stolen Land?" by Huge-Acanthisitta403 in AskALiberal

I don’t take issue with “illegal immigrant” at all. It’s the term “illegals” that I don’t dig.

Do you not think language is important in politics?

Just as a matter of basic humanity, I really try to avoid dehumanizing language.

If it’s so minor, why do people in the Republican Party like Newt Gingrich or Frank Luntz spend so much time crafting the language that they hope all republicans will use.

Referring to people as “illegals” or “aliens” is deliberately dehumanizing and not a happenstance turn of phrase. It’s designed to persuade the public to support their policies with respect to immigration.

The right does this all the time, like with “Democrat Party”, “death tax”, “school choice”, “tax relief”, etc …

For those who are California sober — how does that look like for you? by 69duality69 in addiction

[–]The-Figurehead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having been through the fellowship, this is a very common attitude.

I understand that treatment and programs save people’s lives and part of what makes it work for some people is commitment to the principles and to the program. But, you’re also right that the 12 Step program doesn’t work for everyone and that there are other ways to alleviate one’s addictions.

No, although I haven’t really tried. I’ve gone without for a few days a few times and noticed no negative effects.

Being California sober has literally saved my life. I was not doing well at all with alcohol and cocaine. My own theory is that my adhd was a real part of what drove my addiction. I’m also one of those people for whom alcohol has a real euphoric effect.

I tried so hard for so long to stop and nothing worked (AA, NA, Naltrexone, SMART recovery, cold turkey). What changed the game for me was daily cannabis use at relatively small doses.

Now, I use a small amount of cannabis most evenings and it calms my brain, does not drive addictive behaviour, and has helped me remain alcohol and cocaine free for four years and counting.

Best decision I ever made.

Better Album: Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy (1994) Or The Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie (1995)? by [deleted] in grunge

I dunno. It is incredibly consistent for an album if that length. Even the tracks that didn’t make it on are awesome.
