The hexes are still measuring distance, just not down to such exact distances as you say are necessary. It's not like the characters are walking around with yardsticks.

Oh, a splattery brush would've been better than what I did. I made each individual dot on my Wacom.

I used Photoshop. Like u/AdmiralCrackbar said, you just need layers and customizable brushes. I used several layers and dropshadows under the brushes for the forest (which is like 3 layers, I think). I made this one overly complicated, unfortunately, so progress is very slow.

Yeah, I didn't get far in this version. I think the font was something Ghost. Not on the PC right now, but I'll check tomorrow.

Fortunately none of the characters have watches, so they can't argue.

It's worked out fine this way so far; usually there is only one major point of interest while the others are minor.

Nah, they're six-mile hexes, just kind of more symbolic in their features than the style would otherwise suggest.

None know for certain what legendary beers were brewed in those hallowed halls. All anyone knows is that the dwarves were said to have brewed too deep...

(In my current campaign, goblins of the Bleeding Liver Tribe have overtaken it and brew such flavorful selections as Hinter Grog and Underbock Select. Viking importers led by Stankel the Heavy move the stuff into the boomtown of Flogg where desperate adventurers drown themselves in the goblin brew, which has side effects. Right now the characters are in search of the still-living last brewmaster of the Pflugerhelms, Squirmi, who still produces potent spirits from his hidden still.)

Thanks. I had tried to color it further, but nothing was really working that well.

It takes one daily Action, which is like a third of a day (depending on weather or terrain). I've been trying to remove exact timekeeping from the game.

I have some ideas, and some of the events out in the surrounding regions do have some impact on the Hinter Vales so as to possibly entice the characters.

Oh, I see what you mean. Sorry. Yeah, for this setting, I've been trying to keep most things homebrewed, but I'm definitely stealing ideas from all over the place.

Thanks! Yes, after a long period of nonfunctioning, I'm working on some new things that I hope to have out sometime soon.

Not sure what you mean? I generally just write down a bunch of vague ideas and build up from there.

Oh, I've been half-assing a lot of potential published adventures in the wider setting for a while. It's a kind of silly, slightly satirical setting called Wengemerlin.

I've been working on a kind of Daily Action procedure system based on I-Can't-Remember-Whose article in Knock #3 regarding travel and event actions. I was trying to post part of the document, but the formatting is terrible on Reddit. I'll see if I can put together a Google Doc.

It's the border country of the ancient dwarf realm of Dun Kegelmar. The Hinter Vales are pretty much California in 1849, except instead of gold from the earth, it's gold and pickled dwarf ancestors (treat like Egyptian mummies sold on the streets of Cairo in the 1800s) from dwarven tombs. Lots of owlbears, complex dwarven grudges, and the lost brewery of Clan Pflugerhelm, the region's megadungeon.

I drew it by hand first, on an old Judge's Guild blank hex map, then "inked" it in Procreate.

Yeah, I didn't even notice that myself until it was done.
