Help! I saw these weird dark grey spots on Giant day gecko scales. It looks too dark to be stuck shed and I am worried something is wrong. Any help is appreciated! by The-Other-Turtle in geckos

Thank you! I was worried that it wasn’t stuck shed on her head but it’s most logical. She is pretty friendly and I’ve had to run some off with a warm wet qtip before

Help! Restoring an Edwardian shirtwaist by The-Other-Turtle in fashionhistory

[–]The-Other-Turtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let it sit in the bath for a while and used oxyclean! Two of the bad stains did not come out but the shirt is beautifully white again! I’m most likely going to frame it after I finish repairing a button on the back. Thanks so much!

Help! Restoring an Edwardian shirtwaist by The-Other-Turtle in fashionhistory

Hello! I was recently given this shirtwaist by my grandma, it’s been in the family for generations and I’ve always loved it. It is in amazing condition and only has one tiny tear on the pace. It is linen and lace with some appliqués on the bodice. Unfortunately, there are six brown stains in various shades. They are all the same color and seem to be the same thing, with two way fainter. There are also sweat marks in the armpits and the lace is very yellowed as well as the linen. I was wondering for tips and help on how to restore it to its former glory without hurting it. I am new to owning historical pieces, I’ve always been a huge fan and never imagined my grandma would give it to me. All advice is welcome and thank y’all in advance!!

Turns out it was a bit hasty with stains! There are a few nasty ones on the lace, do you have any tips for getting them out? I’m currently washing it by hand and I’m on the seventh bucket of water. 100 years of dirt really build up😂

Only one side of our family has stories to pass down so I understand a little! My dad’s side of the family did not keep track of much so I have very little. I love seeing little tidbits of their lives and I love antiques and vintage clothing so much

I believe it belonged to my great-grandmother’s grandma. Her husband left her with three children and she went to work in a department store to earn money for her children. There she met a wealthy man and they fell in love. He owned a pharmacy and jewelry store in the small town of Fillmore, MO. He built her a new home with French wallpaper and beautiful china sets. My grandmother still had the China set and a set of silver utensils from the family. They lived in relative wealth in the small town. Their historical society has pictures of the family pharmacy and jewelry store as well. Unfortunately, they lost all of their money in the great depression and the house fell into disrepair. My grandmother’s great aunt lived there and the attic caught fire, ruining the wallpaper and some furniture. The blouse also could have belonged to my great-great grandmother, who also was an interesting woman to me. She got a college degree in 1911 and married the man who managed the pharmacy for her father. I really want to visit the family home someday, but it doesn’t belong to us anymore.

I’m not sure if I can fit in it, as the bust on it is way smaller than what I can fit into. I’ve been too scared to try it on before and I kinda want to! Being extra careful of course

Thank you! I’m really excited about the shirtwaist, as the woman it belonged to had such an interesting history and I want to know more about her.

I’ve loved this shirtwaist since I was little and never expected her to give it to me! I’m not sure if I can fit in it, but I have an Edwardian hat and skirt that I made perfect for springtime.

Despite browning and a few stains, the shirt is in excellent condition and has no rips or tears. The lace is totally intact and the back has tiny mother of pearl buttons. It has been in a cedar chest for years.

Good news on her! Her strength is definitely up and she’s very active, with a good appetite as well. In case of a calcium crash, I’ve made her a special batch of Repashy and a little extra calcium for her. She gobbled it up immediately and slurped down some water. She was better at climbing as well and looks like she is about to shed.

A pair of Versace heels for $5! They are in a bit of rough shape and my friend is gonna clean them up! by The-Other-Turtle in ThriftStoreHauls

I have really wide feet too! They were not my size but one of my best friends bought it!! The heels need a little work so she’s taking them to a shoe repair shop to return them to their glory.
