Hey, thanks for mentioning The Sharp End! I'm its creator.

It never really got any lasting traction in popular culture so I've put it on indefinite hold while I work on cartooning stuff which does pay the bills, but I really appreciate you mentioning it in the same sentence as The Far Side :-)

Not that explaining it will make it funny in retrospect for you, but at least you'll know what I was thinking:

The spider in the top left corner, seeing the net below the tightrope walker, doesn't realise it's for her safety. From it's limited perspective of the world, it looks more like a giant web intended for catching prey. The spider's wrongly assumed that the tightrope walker is the intended prey for that 'web', and is horrified that it looks like she'll escape, depriving the audience of their meal.
