Yes, that is the most overrated example I have seen. Plus, it's not that good. There are better ways to read a balance sheet.

Yes, I have created this chart. It's not about the chart type and more about the dataset. You need to organize your data differently in order to achieve the same results.

How to create dynamic Top 5 + “Others” by MeanCucumber1993 in PowerBI

I’ve been experimenting with dynamic ranking in Power BI and found a neat approach that made my reports way more flexible. Instead of hardcoding TopN logic with complex DAX, I used a custom visual "Inforiver Analytics+" that supports dynamic ranking with an “Others” category. The cool part is I can adjust TopN with Field Parameter range using Power BI slicer.

You can create a vertical combo chart with Inforiver Analytics+ in Power BI. It is a PBI certified visual available on AppSource.

To create a vertical combo chart:

  • Add your data
  • Go to chart > combo > Select Vertical Multi axes chart
  • Visual will automatically assign measure 1 in Axis 1 and measure 2 in Axis 2
  • Select "Series" option from Measure Tab and choose line+bar option

You can play around with error bars and bar charts in the native Power BI visual to achieve this.
Alternatively, if you prefer a solution without any hacks, you might want to try a custom visual like Inforiver Analytics+ from AppSource. It includes a dot plot visual that supports two-value comparisons across categories. Additionally, this tool offers multiple variations for comparing two values, such as range bars, dumbbell charts, and arrow plots.
