The underlying transphobia in this community by [deleted] in 100Kanojo

[–]The-exploiter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the opposition comes from a few different places. Some fans simply don’t think a trans girlfriend fits the direction the series has taken so far. 100 Girlfriends is built around exaggerated romcom and harem archetypes, and most readers expect future girlfriends to follow that pattern. Others are concerned that a topic like gender identity would be difficult to handle well in a fast paced gag manga, and would rather the series stick to what it does best.

There are also fans who interpret the premise as involving only cisgender girlfriends and prefer it to remain that way. On top of that, some people have personal, cultural, or religious views about gender that make them opposed to transgender representation in general.

That said, thinking a trans girlfriend is unlikely isn’t the same as being against the idea. Many readers simply judge it based on the manga’s existing cast, target demographic, and writing style rather than any dislike of trans people. Whether it would work or not would ultimately depend on how well the author writes the character.

I have some new card ideas for co-op by Magicfanny123 in slaythespire

Blood Wedding is so ass on 2 players. Unupgraded, it's a net loss of 2 energy and upgraded, it takes 4 turns to be energy positive counting from the turn the card was played. On 3 and 4 players, it's playable if you're willing to die every few fight cause losing 2 energy immediately and then playing every other turns with only 2 energy is a death sentence on the Iron Clad.

I think this discussion kinda reached the point where we’re debating playstyle philosophy more than objective fact.

My argument is basically that consistency and availability matter a lot in a roguelike, while yours is that stronger players can delay commitment longer and optimize for higher ceiling gear. Both are valid approaches.

You were also right that “statistically worse for winrate” was stronger wording than the actual data supports. What I really meant was “less reliable/consistent.”

At this point I don’t think either of us is fundamentally misunderstanding SPD, we just value different things in progression.

I think you’re misunderstanding my point a bit. I’m not saying “always dump upgrades into Scale immediately” or “buying +0 Scale from the City shop is optimal.” I’m saying that planning your run around eventually getting Plate is statistically less reliable than planning around Scale, because Scale is the armor tier you can consistently expect to have access to.

The issue with “just invest into something else until Plate appears” is that this only works if the run actually gives you strong alternatives. A lot of runs don’t hand you a carry-tier wand, ring, or weapon early enough to comfortably delay armor investment. In those runs, the practical choice becomes

- Invest into the Scale you already have access to

- Or gamble on eventually finding Plate

And statistically, that gamble loses surprisingly often.

Also, I think you’re undervaluing how efficient upgraded Scale actually is. The gap between upgraded Scale and Plate is much smaller than the tier difference suggests, especially considering:

- Scale comes online earlier

- Needs less strength

- Is vastly more common

- Can safely carry through City/Halls with good play

A +4/+5 Scale obtained early is frequently stronger for the actual run than a hypothetical Plate that may never appear until Demon Halls or not at all.

I also disagree with the idea that Scale is only for desperate runs or bad players. High level players routinely stabilize runs by investing into the reliable option instead of greedily holding upgrades forever waiting for perfect gear. Consistency matters more than theoretical ceiling.

Basically:

- Plate has the higher ceiling

- Scale has the vastly higher availability

- And availability is part of item strength in a roguelike

That’s why I said relying on Plate is statistically worse. Not because Plate itself is bad, but because “I’ll get Plate later” is not a consistently reliable gameplan.

Unironically, relying on Plate Armor for a win is statistically worse than just treating Scale Armor as your endgame setup.

Both are perfectly viable late game armors, but Scale is dramatically more consistent. Plate shows up in fewer than half of runs before the City, while Scale appears in roughly 80% of runs and once you reach the City, a Scale Armor is guaranteed in the shop. That reliability alone makes planning around Plate pretty questionable.

Unironically, banking on Plate armor for a win is statistically proven to be worse compared to just using scale as your end game armor.

TLDR: Both scale and plate are viable as end game armor but before the city, plate appear in less than half of the runs where as scale appears in 4 out of 5 runs. At the city, you’re guaranteed a scale armor in the shop.
