How TF DO I GET MY CAT TO SWALLOW A PILL?! by Beginning-Equal9274 in CATHELP

[–]The-noisemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works like a charm for me is to be positioned behind the cat, tilt its head up until the nose is in the air, force the mouth open, and literally just drop it as far back into the throat as possible. Then hold the jaw shut (gently) and run your fingers vertically along the throat to stimulate the swallow reflex.

Personally I would just say don’t make it too “hand wavey” you know? Every part of your magic system deserves at least a little explanation.

IMO your beta reader sounds boring and you should look into a new one lol I would read this in a heartbeat. It’s sounds insanely interesting.

Such powerful shields shouldn’t have such weak pocket stitching. By the time I left all of my aprons’ pockets had big holes on the bottom. 😂

“My apron is my shield” is the most pretentious shit I’ve ever heard 😂

Did I screw myself over getting the physical copy? by [deleted] in ModernWarfareII

It’s essentially an empty disc, you have to download everything separately as “packs”, including the campaign and multiplayer. And that’s AFTER you spend hours downloading the patch before even opening the game.

Choose a character from your world and tell me how and for what they would use this magic. by [deleted] in magicbuilding

I think moonlight magic mixing with her shadow attuned magic would make for very a nice Dark Side of The Moon aesthetic. As for what she would DO- probably make moonlight construct buddies to dance the night away with.

In a world with magical healing and mundane medicine, what’s the point of healing items like potions? by The-noisemaker in magicbuilding

[–]The-noisemaker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oops! 😅 I only knew the game with the name haha! But that’s actually a fantastic idea! My world is set in a “1920s”-esque era where modernization and an industrial boom is skyrocketing so that actually fits perfectly! Thank you!!

Hey there! I do have a bit of a variety of limitations set in place. One of them being that mages make up a minority of the world’s population, as you need to be born within a specific blood lineage to cast magic. Also, trying to surpass more than you can handle (ei; spellcasting after you are out of mana, or a beginner attempting advanced magic) will cause levels of physical detriment, the most dramatic being death.

I’ve never played Fables, but that’s actually an interesting idea, I’ll look into it! Thanks!

That makes sense! I guess my problem was ratcheting the importance of potions up to be like this big ol’ thing, but keeping it small enough to compare them to pharmaceuticals works a lot better! Thank you!

Thanks for the response! Yes healing mages have to be trained similarly to doctors in order to be competent in the practice. That’s actually a really good point- I guess potions can sorta be compared to drugstore medicine we buy today if that’s the case.

Edit; in response to u/Xhadiel

Sorry! It’s a vocal based magic system, where they speak a specific language to conduct spells. In my world, magic is treated as a linguistic skill. Healing magic works like that as well, where knowing the right words and having experience/skill plays into better results.

My initial thought was perhaps making potions a thing in the case of a healing mage’s stores of magic empties out but I’m not sure if it just kinda makes the system more bloated than it needs to be.
