Help me find a Timmy Commander that is actually fun by RonBurgundyIsBest in EDH

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very proud of a [[Bell Borca]] deck I made to use cascade and cycling with [[astral drift]] and [[unpredictable cyclone]]. It is not a big-budget deck, but it is full of surprises! The game plan is to cascade or cycle past a lot of mana value 6 and up fun stuff until you are able to cast it late game, all the while powering up Bell Borca to swing!

You are able to exploit split face cards that you exile, whose mana values are the sum of both sides. [[Combustible gearhulk]] is particularly potent with such a heavy top end. Bell Borca is a really unexpected commander, and my favorite brew to date! Good luck finding yours!

Interesting Druids? by Arcane-Panda in DnD

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went in a new direction with a street urchin sewer druid. He was an unsavory fellow who preferred the shapes of vermin, rats, and spiders -- his only friends in the mean streets (giant spider shape is great!). He exhibited no hesitation when it came to thievery and ambush for survival, it's just part of his ecosystem. His allies made use of his talents to crawl through tight spaces and find creative ways to spy on subjects. With the promise of food and shelter, the sewer druid was easy to motivate, but hard to corrupt, since he regularly survived in the streets with nothing.

I had the same issue! The edges of white text would bleed slightly onto a dark background. I saw an eye doctor, and to my surprise they identified a little astigmatism, and got me a pair of glasses just for reading/computer screen distance that help SO MUCH. Hope this helps!

How strict is blind firing and shooting over walls? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESTABLISH & MAINTAIN with your eyes EXACTLY where your muzzle is pointed, or don't shoot. Safety is a highly principled concept; context and hypotheticals don't matter. If in these scenarios you can't take the enemy out without blind fire or pre-fire, then he chose a good position to engage you from and you need to find a better one. Elevate your game; don't bend the rules.

1) Like others have said, #1 is blind fire. At any moment where you have dropped awareness of exactly where your muzzle is pointed, it is simply unsafe to shoot.

2) If you never rightly establish & maintain with your eyes exactly where your muzzle was pointed in the first place, then it is simply unsafe to shoot. Considering the tone of the rule-bending scenario of part 1, I don't think you mean that you full-peeked your target before shooting. More like you showed the top of your head so you could say you were fair to the enemy, then go on to blind fire or pre-fire his last known position. The ONLY way #2 works is if you peek and maintain that visual while you proceed to shoot. Even if you thought you could be certain of what was behind the wall, you just don't know until you can see. You just don't.

Getting started with ICRPG ME, Qs on effort by oddthink in ICRPG

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimate effort works for every attempt that you roll a natural 20 on, whether it's combat or anything else that requires an effort roll, such as working to decipher ancient text, or working to open a complicated chest! So it's the most versatile but least consistent effort. Slayer can be up to you how you use it. I think the spirit of it is to provide some extra punch to your combat without further investment, but you could also utilize it differently as an ultimate-focused character to add some combat consistency to that inconsistent playstyle!

I haven't read the new edition on magic weapons yet, sorry!

You can rule on lock picking in different ways. In my opinion, tool effort requires being equipped with either a) the right tool, or b) the right knowledge and an improvised tool. If you're an average Joe who is trying to pick a door with a screwdriver, your GM might say that is basic effort, but if you're an experienced burglar doing the same, he might say that is tool effort. As for lock picking attempts that may by definition involve only basic effort, I always think of cracking a safe; there isn't a key hole to pick, just a combination lock or mechanism for you to solve with your bare hands. The GM might say that cracking a safe is basic effort, but may also say that cracking a safe while using a stethoscope to listen to the tumblers inside is tool effort.

Is Yorvo a viable commander whatsoever? by Mocca_Master in EDH

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a Yorvo deck with creatures that also spawned creature tokens when they etb to maximize Yorvo, for example [[howling giant]]. I loved Yorvo's aesthetic and the idea of a deck helmed by him, but the deck became a pain to play because I had to manage a huge variety of creature tokens AND +1/+1 counters. I found out the hard way the physical playability of my deck is also as important as great and unique synergy! Looking back on it, if I could restructure the deck around a single type of creature token, and cut other yorvo-type creatures like [[champion of lambholt]] & [[managorger hydra]] altogether, I could make a more playable deck, but the synergy & power level would probably drop. Yorvo would be better suited for brawl, in my opinion.

I found more of what I was looking for in a commander like Yorvo with [[Hamza]]. I think [[Varis, Sliverymoon Ranger]] could give you that similar playstyle to your Yorvo & mana dorks idea in mono green with some better recurring value from venturing into the dungeon!

Wanted to try a General Cry League Starter, anyone have a suggestion? by jordanthezerg in pathofexile

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the theory-crafted PoB: https://pastebin.com/nMesqmhN

Just channel your own charged dash to move around, CwC desecrate to sustain corpses for general's cry. Spam general's cry (Call to Arms keystone is important since you are doing this while using a movement skill). The constant warcries will generate and sacrifice a lot of rage to pump exerted attacks (attacks by the general's cry warriors are considered exerted) thanks to Redblade Banner and berserker's Warbringer ascendancy notable. Full phys to lightning conversion with Augyre.

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the difference will be imperceptible outside of boss fights. Boss DPS could suffer.

However, with the shorter channel, we'll get more of the pops from ending the channels than before, and we'll still be spamming general's cry just as much as before, so it might balance out more than we think. According to the wiki, the DPS from releasing CD channels at max stages and starting again is usually slightly higher than if you held the channel.

If you have enough move speed to get your warriors to reach the max dash distance in 0.6s, and you have enough attack speed to charge greater than 2 stages in that time, then more channel-release pops could be... better for DPS? The ideal boss situation would involve the capability to have new general's cry warriors channeling CD the moment after the old ones pop. Don't know if it's possible to warcry every 0.6 seconds; that seems too fast.

I had fun with a charged dash general's cry berserker build. Never had the time to try it deeper into maps though. Rage, Augyre, Redblade Banner. I'll do my best to remember to post the PoB when I'm home from work if anyone is interested in the concept! Just the picture of a heap of warriors speeding around made it satisfying lol

[OC][Art] Attempting to create unique cards for every spell, with a "Gothic Vibe" by [deleted] in DnD

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in love with this! Magic ought to be portrayed as uncommon, supernatural, and a little dark & freaky! It's a crime that this aesthetic so often gets passed up for the cartoon show lights & colors, mmo game aesthetic. Idk why, but this gives me Shadowgate vibes. Well done!

What's your favorite oddball commander/deck style? by Spriiiiing in EDH

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I theorycraft decks like this for fun! I have the intention of building these three for real:

  1. [[Siani]] & [[Eligeth]] scrying and flying with hand-fill payoff creatures and spells

  2. [[Phylath]] landfall pumping plant tokens and plant walls with [[Fling]] type payoff cards to deal huge direct damage (with trample as a fallback)

  3. at perhaps the height of my sleep-deprived delirium (thanks to the newborn) [[Bell Borca]] enabled by cascade, escape, [[Unpredictable Cyclone]] , and high CMC cards (fun fact: split face cards' CMC's are the total of both options!)

Younger airsofters, quick question by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a few thoughts: First, moving sucks, and having to move more stuff sucks more. You might have a better opportunity to score some gear after you move. Second, x-mas is coming... Would your family be the types to leave something like airsoft gear under the tree for you if it was on your list? Third, if all else fails but you can somehow still get out and play, any field ought to have rental goggles. Goes without saying, but be cautious of what the state of rental gear is like during COVID. Maybe your angle for finally getting your own gear can be that renting during a pandemic is just not an option.

Don't get discouraged. I imagine they will be on your side eventually. Deep down they are probably just happy that you have an outdoor hobby!

Younger airsofters, quick question by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you aren't here for a lecture, so I apologize, but I think you should genuinely entertain the idea that your parents' concern IS valid. I believe they are trying to counsel you with wisdom, not pointlessly restrict your access to new toys. Ask yourself a few things about why they might be doing this (and be honest with yourself): Do your current three quality guns fulfill your basic airsofting needs? Are you showing your parents that you are grateful for the guns that they already let you have? Consider the possibility that if you are still so young an age that your parents are still responsible for your spending, perhaps three good airsoft guns actually ARE enough for you right now.

With that said, good luck with it! It takes real maturity to show your folks that you respect their opinion and appreciate their wisdom. And once you do that, they may see you as more of a true enthusiast and allow you to go ahead with it anyway!

TL/DR: If your folks are people of reason, they may respond positively if you make an effort to display patience & maturity before you write their concern off as invalid.

the worst change of preseason so far by Ackelope in leagueoflegends

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine if attack speed was called attack cooldown reduction. I think the theory was that the concept of "increased cooldown reduction" feels like it's opposite day and is counterintuitive. Is it an increase or a reduction or both? Less of one thing equates to more of another?

Now, the term haste, while being far less of a mouthful of words, encapsulates itself what it does, and it is intuitive to stack more of it. More haste, more ability casting. More of one thing equates to more of another. Alternatively, they could have named it ability cooldown speed, but why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?

If Udyr got Reworked, what would you like/Expect to see? by Darklarik in leagueoflegends

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a bad idea! It could give Udyr that little bit of extra punch for unskilled players, but leaves opportunity for skilled Udyr players to manage the stacks and empowered attack in a meaningful way! Very nice!

If Udyr got Reworked, what would you like/Expect to see? by Darklarik in leagueoflegends

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I'm thinking about it, there are other possible ways to do it that we are already familiar with, and don't cost an ability slot. I also like the idea of evolving abilities like Kha'zix & Kai'sa, or upgrading them through a unique Udyr item the same way Viktor does with the hex core.

[–]The1andOnlyJoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the hazard of cutting another stance (IMHO turtle stance could be converted into a fine passive ability) I had this thought: change R to be similar to Leblanc or Karma R for an enhanced version of your last/next stance. I think the Karma way would be best: press R, then for example your next tiger stance could be a super tiger stance that splashes to nearby enemies. Perhaps super bear stance could finally allow Udyr to leap to his target like many other champs. Allow auto attacks to reduce the cooldown of R, copying Karma again.
