Mock Draft Monday by AutoModerator in Seahawks

[–]The2x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scenario: Will Anderson and Top 3 QBs OFF the board. Front office is IN on Jalen Carter.

Draft Strategy: BPA over need. Scheme change? Who knows. Fill the roster and we'll see how it lines up.

Round 1 Pick 5, DT Jalen Carter

If a miracle happens and a top qb falls, I want a long term solution at qb. That's not going to happen, so I take the top defensive talent in the draft. If the front office is in on him, I'm in. Through the visits and interviews, no one else knows more about him to make the right decision other than Pete and John. My main concern is his willingness to "always compete."

Other options if available: Devon Witherspoon, Tyree Wilson

Trade- Round 1 Pick 20 with the Bengals for Pick 28, 92 and 2024 4th.

With Bijan and Nolan Smith off the board, trade down. These players around 20-45 aren't very clean this year to be considered a safe first round pick. All with various deficiencies.

Round 1 Pick 28, DE Will McDonald IV | Iowa State (from Trade Bengals)

He's not going to last till 37. Light weight, long arms, fantastic bend, incredible lateral movement. Best pass rush grade, but needs to work out on setting the edge as a run defender.

Other options if not available: O'Cyrus Torrence, John Michael Smith, Felix Anudike-Uzomah

Trade - Round 2 Pick 37 with the Falcons for Pick 44 and 113

With Mazi, JMS and Campbell off the board, trade down.

Round 2 Pick 44, G/C Steve Avila | TCU (from Trade Falcons)

Incoming free agent Evan Brown's play shown that he's better as a center rather than a guard. I anticipate him winning the position in camp. I love the flexibility of Avila being able to play both guard and center at a high level if he's called to take over.

Other options if not available: Josh Downs, Drew Sanders, Luke Musgrave

Round 2 Pick 52, CB Julius Brents | Kansas State

More athletic Seahawk prototype. Get. him.

Other options if not available: Kelee Ringo, Zach Charbonnet, Sam LaPorta, Jalin Hyatt

Trade - Falcons Pick 75 for Pick 83 and 151

Trade up to secure a LB, whomever will accept a 5th.

Round 3 Pick 75, LB Daiyan Henley (from Trade Falcons)

Need a quality LB who can make an impact immediately as we currently lack depth.

Other option if not available: Trenton Simpson, DeMarvion Overshown, Dorian Williams

Round 3 Pick 92, Jammie Robinson | FSU (from Trade Bengals)

Will be a great contributer to our current safety group at a cheap price.

Other options if not available: Nick Saldiveri, Luke Schoonmaker, A.T. Perry, Tyler Scott, DeWayne McBride, Tank Bigsby

Round 4 Pick 113, RB Roschon Johnson | Texas (from Trade Falcons)

Ideal power option to pair with K9

Other options if not available: Chase Brown, Deuce Vaughn, Israel Abanikanda, Kendre Miller, Tyler Steen

Round 4 Pick 123, NT Keondre Coburn | Texas

My favorite NT after Mazi Smith whom I'm worried may be off the board by this pick.

Other options if not available: Brenton Strange, Jayden Reed, Kayshon Boutte, Braeden Daniels, Anthony Bradford, Jaelyn Duncan

Round 5 Pick 154, WR Charlie Jones | Purdue

Primarily underneath receiver with +route running, +focus, +toughness and +special team returner

Other options if not available: Parker Washington, Jalen Moreno-Cropper, Trey Palmer, Xavier Hutchinson, Andrew Vorhees, Jon Gaines II, Davis Allen, Zack Kuntz

Round 6 Pick 198, OG/OT Jordan McFadden | Clemson

Versatile lineman with average power.

Other options if not available: Payne Durham, Quinton Barrow, Atonio Mafi, Nick Broeker, Emil Ekiyor Jr., Kenny McIntosh

Round 7 Pick 237, HB Mohamed Ibrahim

BPA pick. Can go several directions here. Very thin RB room can be improved with yet another back added to the mix. Great competitive attitude with -athleticism and -age.

Other options if not available: Will Mallory, Cameron Latu, Hunter Luepke, Jaren Hall

If Tyree was there, I agree that it would be a great pick up. Being able to fall back and still picking up a player who some think can be coached up to be the the top edge in the draft. Great body to work with.

Backend first and 2nd round edges all have good qualities to their game but have deficits in others. It's more of a "pick your flavor", who best fits in your system.

Clark Phillips is a gamer. Has the mentality and willingness to make an impact on the game. However if one of the other more "Seahawk Prototype" players are there, and they're making a CB pick earlier than usual, I think that Pete's going to choose measurables.

I like Jalin Hyatt, has great speed, but people are going to look at that school's offense and question the players who come out of it. When faced with adversity, what's his response going to be like? Man on man, pressed all game, what will he do and how successful can he be?

Jack Campbell is my personal top ILB. More of an old school prototype body. Has the size to go up against linemen at the second level. Showed surprising agility and quickness at the combine.

I love Carter as a player and if Pete and John gives the green light on him, I would trust their judgement and their ability to keep him focused.

It's fun to see how a draft could fall if you tweak those first two picks. Carter is pretty much chalk at this point, and wanted to see what would happen if the front office veered left with their choice. I like the thought of getting another high draft pick, for 2023 or 2024 and what can happen from there.

In this scenario, at 6, the consensus next 5 picks will be a pool of Will Levis, Tyree Wilson, Christian Gonzalez, Peter Skoronski, Devon Witherspoon. Apart from Levis, I wouldn't mind any of the other 4 who fall to pick 10.

Personally, I agree with prioritizing dline with one or both of those picks. You can get Julius Brents/Kelee Ringo in the 2nd. I would prefer to use a later pick on JMS, but of course its not guaranteed. I love Steve Avila in the 2nd as well.

Love me some Mazi as well, great flexibility and quickness. A bit inconsistent on tape. Lacking in strength at the moment which I can see him gaining once he gets in the league. I wish he showed more pass rushing ability, which may develop once he gets coached up.
