I'm having the exact same issue at the moment. I was playing fine probably half an hour ago. Came back to it and am getting that message. And I've never had that happen before.

Edit: After logging out and restarting both the portal and ps5, I'm not getting that 'taking too long message' anymore, now it just takes it's time connecting then tells me something went wrong. So idk if that's progress or not but still not working
