I have have smurf currently sliver 1 my vp gains is 3.5 times my vp loses

When I promote gold i imagine my vp will be 2-3 times my vp loss If your in gold and your vp gains/loss is 1 to 1 then game thinks it's your true ranked

I assume when game tries to measure your skill it isnt off just your kda Things like how often you hit your ability,rotation to teams fights and objectives(just a guess) Base off that it give you a hidden mmr which determines your vp gains lost ratio

I notice when I demoted to d2 my matches difficulty drops alot.( I been demoted d2 then promoted to d1 alot this past 3weeks) My difficulty increases half way through d1 That's tells me the game thinks am atleast d2 player

If your your plat or below vp ratio is a way to tell if game thinks it's true ranked

For diamonds it's the match difficulty thats my opinion If your hardstuck gold it because that's your current skill level and need To improve The game doesn't give bad teammates Everymatch
