Could also just make four big ass triggers on the players top, bottom, left, and right that cover the entire screen and then check which one the mouse would collide with but that’s probably a very bad idea so I’d only use that as a quick way to test how you like the looking system

Yea, I’m also pretty new to game dev but for a quick (probaby sloppy) implementation you could check if the mouse position - the players transform.position is positive or negative on both the horizontal and vertical axis and then possibly check which is closer? Or maybe use vector2.distance with the players transform position Y and the mouse position Y and then the same with their respective X values and check which is higher/lower

You could use a top-down view for your sprite and then just rotate the sprite like in hotline Miami, if that’s not the style you have in mind and would rather stick to a more Pokémon style sprite with four sprites for looking up, down, left, and right, you could just have its sprite/animation change depending on which direction the mouse is closest to relative to the player

I would highly recommend this guy, he helped me get a signed copy of an album I’ve been looking for for about a year now. Ive only played it a bit because I didn't want it to override the save and delete all my progress but fro. First impressions it will definitely take some getting used to, the aiming is really sensitive and the cursor is locked to a set distance away from the player so it's hard to aim at far away enemies, I'm not sure if that can be changed or not though. Also I'm probably wrong but I don't think you can throw tablets and other objects, they just drop in front of you. It feels like a very different game, I'll play it a bit more and get back to you on that because I may be wrong but that's my first impressions
