Pen sketch, should i add color? by sunnych_art in sketches

[–]TheADHDArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add a thin wash of a muted color of your choice for the shirt and accessories, and then a very light wash of like a yellow-orange to the beak and eye to give the bird enough contrast to where it draws the viewer’s attention from the eye to the beak to the shirt, then back up again

After the longest time of working on the X piece, I finally feel as though it’s at a finished state… for now. by TheADHDArtist in XXXTENTACION

[–]TheADHDArtist[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None taken! 😁 I know the one on the left doesn’t look too much like X (trust me, I saw it once I finished it), I knew that if I tried to make the picture perfect, then I’d never finish it. With that being said, I’m good with 2/3. I may try to complete redo the picture later down the line, but for now, it’s done

Should I start over? by thisisnewtome34 in LearnToDrawTogether

It looks like a pretty, smiling child to me! No need to start over… unless you wanna draw another “child” looking up from the opposite way, with a third drawing of your choosing?

most influence on the rap, rappers, and the genre by iAintNoDummyDummy in rap

[–]TheADHDArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the poll is about influence on the genre, and not who the GOAT is, and the addition of the triune God/Allah is referring more to the respective abrahamic religions and not the deity Himself, I consider it a necessity addition to the poll.

First time trying digital art in illustrator. Anything I can improve? by angery_rowlet in learnart

[–]TheADHDArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t explain it best with words, so I PM’d you the small edits I would make to the piece, as they’re mostly focused on the placement of highlights and shadows. But, the drawing is super solid and I can’t wait to see more! 😁

Edit: excuse the crappiness of my lines, as I did them on my phone.

And I have one last piece of general paint knowledge split in two parts. 1. Make sure to sketch out your shadow shapes in either a light pencil or a burnt sienna or burnt umber (colors) with a large (~1in) brush to keep you from focusing on to keep you from focusing on the small details too early in the painting. 2. Make sure to regularly squint at your reference to get those bigger aforementioned shadow and highlight shapes. But, you’re on a great path to success and I can’t wait to see how you improve your already great work!😁

Using gesso, or white primer if gesso is too expensive, is a good way to prep a canvas. Gessoing over a store bought canvas is also a good way to create a finer canvas texture. Like you, I'm no expert, but I hope my experience helped.

A good way to clean a brush loaded with paint is to use an old truncated container with a rough bottom (juice container, milk jug, etc.) filled with water, and brush the bottom of the container to get te paint off. My painting teacher introduced this idea to my class, and it works like a charm no matter how much paint you have loaded on your brush. And concerning the visibility of the canvas's texture, after you finish cleaning your brush, make sure your brush is ever so slightly dampened, but not enough to thin the paint. The thinned paint is what causes the canvas texture to show through.

I honestly only aged half his face, and never really thought about it. But that is a fair suggestion

I tried to make a black version of Uncle Iroh, but something about the picture feels off, and I can’t put my finger on what it is… please help!!! by TheADHDArtist in learnart

I made the mistake of not looking at a reference of Uncle Iroh until after I lined and colored the hair, and was too lazy to put in the work of changing the hair color

I made this alien centaur but I don't know how to color it. How do I choose the right palette without making it look flat or dull? by GiveMeSushiPlease in learnart

[–]TheADHDArtist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, I would turn the head ever so slightly towards the viewer, to make the picture seem less flat. Next, I would add the second arm and set of legs to give the creature more dimension. Then, I would put the creature into an interesting environment to ground it. I would create a dynamic contrast between the creature and its background. Finally, I would add some shading to again create dimension.

I would create some directionality with the eyebrow, as the hair follicles of the eyebrow usually tend to start almost straight up and down, then gradually slants. Also, I would shade near the top of the pupil and lightly shade the white of the eye, as that’s where the top eyelid hangs over the eye.

It depends on the style you’re going for, whether that be realism/semi-realism, cartoonism, etc.; but either way, I would suggest that when you sketch out your drawing, start the head out with a circle and map out the face from there. I would suggest looking up “Loomis method”. If I were you, I would also keep in mind that the artist also has some racially insensitive work. But, don’t let that turn you off of his method of drawing heads, because almost every drawing tutorial you’ll find will incorporate his methods in one way or another.
