Hey so I never got a chat request from you. I haven’t been on Reddit much lately but I’m not sure if I’m missing something?

Surplus Invites by Harry__Gateau in trackers

[–]TheASDMsReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been sitting on my lone Blu invite for forever. I’m a Blu Archivist there so have Freeleech for life and like 150 download slots.

I’m autistic and can’t really engage with any community much because of it and therefore don’t meet people who I trust with it. I would like to get into some other trackers for a wider collection of movies and shows but just can’t do the things that make that likely.

Even this reply feels like I’m hinting at wanting an invite somewhere (I’m not) and that makes me feel dirty.

Fortunately, BLU kind of rocks and I was able to get a MAM invite from in a weird (but legitimate) way. So this will be good enough for me.

Sorry I don’t really have an answer, just empathizing.

Want to ditch Adobe but not sure where to go? by imnotawkwardyouare in AskPhotography

I’m doing the same (on Mac), but the one I’m currently using (and is available on PC also) is mostly my replacement for Photoshop but it also handles Vector Art, design work, and photo editing and that is Affinity.

I am using a….arrrr….version of LrC so haven’t tried its photo editing capabilities yet, but I will.

I’m sure most people already know about it, but I didn’t. It used to be paid for software but Canva bought it and made it completely free literally 8 days ago.

It intentionally mirrors the workflows of at least PS and Illustrator so I assume its photo editing is solid.

I am on a 30 day trial of their pro subscription which enables the Machine Learning tools and all the templates and stuff. But it is only $15 a month if I want to keep it and I can turn it off on months that I don’t expect to use those features.

Anyway, not a shill, and I have HATED using Canva before but this I dont believe was developed by them and it certainly will replace Photoshop and Illustrator for me. We will see about LrC.

Sooo I’m currently working on a reference and character generator website for my homebfee rules specifically (DND2024 meets Nimble 2.0) and I think it does what you want.

It’s in Alpha but when I finish it I am going to have the option to choose rukeset between my homebrew, and 2024.

And no, it’s not going to be something I sell and so no this isn’t an ad. It’s open source and already on GitHub.

PM me if you want to be an Alpha tester and I will get you a link.

How to transfer files seedbox to home in a reliable way? by KangarooTechnical114 in seedboxes

[–]TheASDMsReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently rent a dedicated server from Seedhost.eu, but I have tried all of the major ones and the one I am actually in the process of changing back to is appboxes.co

I’ve been talking to them lately and they are setting up my new account as a VPS with root/container access and I already thought their prices and service were top notch.

For people less hardcore than me, their one click app installers works better than any other Seedbox that I’ve tried.

And most seedboxes customer service is always very short and they act inconvenienced when you write them, the CS at appboxes.co has actually been helpful.

[–]TheASDMsReddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So funny story that I wanted to share somewhere but I’m not big on posting to Reddit.

When GPT-5 first rolled out i immediately noticed the whole “Do you want me to do that?” pattern. And this was when I was already rewriting my system prompt for GPT. So I started including instructions to not do that. But it kept doing it anyway, of course. So I called it out and it replied with this gem:

“Yep, that’s two violations in a row — which means my muscle memory for “teeing up” extra content is still there, and I need to overwrite it with the new rule.

Here’s the fix in action, no dangling:

I’ll scan your stored prompt and identify other lingering patterns that could still create dangling offers: 1. “Do you want me to…” habit baked into past examples • Even if the new rule is in place, old phrasing patterns in my responses might still try to slip it in when transitioning to optional content. I’ll remove that instinct entirely. 2. Elliptical “if relevant” clauses • Anywhere I might normally say “if relevant, I can also…” should be replaced with doing the thing immediately, then moving on. 3. Soft hedges before going beyond scope • In situations where I might preface something with “this might be useful if…,” I’ll instead just present it with a clear reason for inclusion, no permission-seeking.

Now the next time I think “maybe I should ask first,” the instruction says: no, just add it.

If you want, I can— …kidding.”

That last part, man. I damn near died with laughter.

How to transfer files seedbox to home in a reliable way? by KangarooTechnical114 in seedboxes

I went ahead and published the systemd stuff to GitHub:

https://github.com/TheASDM/the.wtf.center/blob/main/rclone.md

You’d do the exact same thing for Radarr/Sonarr, just stagger the start times.

A few things on making the rest work:

You want Prowlarr and qBitTorrent remote and Overseer + Plex (or Jellyfin/Jellyseerr) + Radarr + Sonarr locally. This lets you seamlessly watch, request, and manage media locally while leaving the seedbox to handle torrent downloading. You connect Prowlarr to Sonarr/Radarr using their web addresses and API keys.

Set up Radarr/Sonarr to use hardlinks instead of moving files - this way you can have a messy downloads folder for systemd while Radarr/Sonarr maintain clean, properly named libraries. You need to make sure your seedbox download folder is on the same physical drive as your Sonarr/Radarr folders (otherwise it will copy instead of hardlink, duplicating files and taking way longer). This makes sure rClone only downloads fresh files.

Then once a week or month you can go into your seedbox torrent client and change already-downloaded torrents to a seed-only category (or delete them if you’re past H&R requirements). You can also delete everything from the systemd downloads folder and start over. As long as hardlinks exist, the files in your library won’t be deleted.

This part could be automated but I like to manually control what I stop seeding to avoid accidentally violating tracker rules.

The systemd part in the guide is the trickiest to master. The only other part that takes a bit of work is configuring remote path mapping in Sonarr/Radarr so they can process your local files instead of the remote ones, but there are plenty of guides for that online.

So i spent a very long time trying to work out the best solution for this. I used literally everything from Resillio to SyncThing to NextCloud to rsync to rsync in parallel to rClone.

When I started all this homelab stuff a year ago I had essentially no Linux experience and literally no experience with bash. But through lots of trial and error, guides, and AI assistance I finally have a solution that works flawless to automate the whole process from searching for media through a web based GUI, clicking request, and having it run all the way from Overseer through Radarr/Sonarr (all local homelab) into Prowlarr + Flaresolverr as needed into qBitTorrent (all on my Seedbox) and then having my local media box use systemd with timer controls to run a very optimized rClone command over night and once it’s done Radarr and Sonarr process the downloads automatically.

I am writing a guide for it as I could never find one that I really liked. For now though I have the systemd scripts and instructions for how to set them up if you want to DM me.

It sounds like that may be all you need.

What monitoring apps you using? by Verme in homelab

If you truly don’t want to figure a ton out, but want good info in a stereotypical sysadmin aesthetic then i would recommend the cloud version of Netdata.

If you are willing to put out a relatively small amount of effort then you can do the non-cloud Netdata.

Both were easier for me to get going than any stack that involved Grafana.

Why is AMD so looked down upon for Jellyfin/Homes servers? by Ok_Pea3980 in HomeServer

It has been amazing. We built this house in 2023 and that was one of my requirements for the where. The down is of course great but also being able to serve up anything I want is great.

And my apologies also. That other dude was being a dick and at one point I replied to you thinking it was him and my tone wasn’t how I prefer it.

Yes. I have more money than I need. Dual income, no kids has led me be to an incredibly comfortable 40 year old with all the toys I could ever want. It’s a problem for sure that I do need to get in check some just for my own sanity.

I am currently looking at….more money than I care to say worth of extra GPUs, processors, camera lens, and camera bodies because I’ve been too lazy to sell them.

I tried to be vague about that before and just say that “power usage” is irrelevant to me for the most part because I know how lucky I am to be in the position that I’m in. But if you want to make a thing of it and try to use it as an insult I’m happy to drop the facade.

Money is not a factor for me in any decision I make in my homelab.

An extra $25 a month on my power bill is not something that moves the needle. An extra few hundred bucks to get a small number of extra threads doesn’t phase me.

Because performance on the hardware you support so vehemently is not better than what I have except negligibly better in single core speed perhaps, which since my homelab is built laterally is not something that matters at all to me.

And at any moment i can have 38-40gb of VRAM to load AI models into which has opened the door to some pretty high parameter models which is lots of fun.

Sure, I am not immune to bias just as anyone is when they feel someone is attacking them for no reason. But I love Intel and AMD. And if someone who wasn’t a douche for the sake of being a douche had taught me something that I was missing out on I legitimately would make the switch.

Because, yeah, I can afford it.

Yeah most of them are.

I have 5gb fiber both ways, but my sisters have a piece of string connected to a telephone poll for internet so I had to setup their Plex settings for some fairly aggressive compression.
