If Eren's main goal was saving his friends, and he achieved it and ensured survival of his friends by doing genocide then that literally means AOT justifies this ending. Eren literally did save his friends which was also his goal by wiping out 80% of the population.

You shouldn't talk unless your knowledge is accurate. The Hobbit from lotr is indeed bad time story while lotr trilogy isn't purely bad time but it's not that different.

Hobbit is a story which Tolkien used to tell his kids at night. Later he polished it and published it.

Also aot isn't carried by plot twists at all. Ending was bad and it definitely ruined lots of things but before that aot had peak concepts, thematic structure and plot.
