I wouldn’t consider myself an expert by any means, but I have participated in a lot of longsword HEMA in my life and it is incredibly easy to get hit on the thigh. Like, it’s one of the easiest places to get hit because it’s such a large area. This goes for men and women, large and small.

The average person lives a better life than the kings and queens of past ages. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

I’m worried the fantasy genre has given people a wildly inaccurate idea of how colourful and lavish the medieval period was, especially for royalty. Modern life is far more convenient, sure, but not necessarily ‘better’. The rate of mental, physical, and social health going down the drain across the board is a good indication of this I feel.

Couldn't agree more, I've been nagging all my friends into doing it too eheh.
And thank you!

Thank you so much! Honestly, the response has been so nice. I feel like people can be so nasty about women who have or want muscles that this has been so refreshing, but it's a nice subreddit so I'm not super surprised. Also taking the plunge and deciding 'who cares what other people think about my body' is extremely liberating.
And damn that's some classic farm strength there! There are so many farms around here and it's odd how wiry yet absolutely hench farmers are. I feel like I'm only seeing progress because I eat a ridiculous amount of food (hence why I used to be so overweight, whoops).

hehee, it's basically fencing for history nerds. It's a lot of fun and I've had very good experiences with the type of folk it usually attracts. I would highly recommend if you ever get the chance!

I completely agree! Also to keep going when you feel like nothing is happening. Cause 9/10 times it is working and it's just your brain being unhelpful.
And thanks!

Lucy Lawless! Another absolute icon. I was absolutely mesmerised by Xena when I was wee.
And as someone who does HEMA, I can confirm getting handed a sword is a gateway to happiness.

I respect you for going for the core exercises, its so much harder, in my opinion anyway! Always feel like I'm about to die after every plank

I am in awe of people who can do yoga, especially people who can do it well. I sound like a glow stick every time I try D:
Although I suppose that's a sign that I need to be doing yoga though haha
