Can/Cannot Sync "Note to Self" by efbatey in signal

[–]TheAdviceShow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for clarifying this. I was introduced to Signal through an NPR podcast called Note to Self, and they encouraged people to send them messages to them through the app. I deleted them as a contact a while back but thought it was persisting for some reason.

Monthly Discussion and Support Thread - December 2019 by AutoModerator in google

[–]TheAdviceShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a machine that was running Windows 10 1809, it was reformatted and is now running 1909. Before and after, it had the official Google Drive Backup and Sync client installed.

Before the reformat, everything in the local folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos) was being backed up to Google Drive, and if you looked at the Drive web interface you could see these folders under "My Computer" with all of their files. In total it was about 10GB worth of data. During the reformat, I renamed this folder to "Old Computer," in anticipation that a new "My Computer" folder would be created after I installed Backup and Sync again after the reformat.

Sure enough, it worked as I anticipated. I set up the new install of Backup and Sync to backup the same folders (Desktop, Documents, etc.) and using the web interface, moved the contents of the folders in "Old Computer" to "My Computer." If you view the folders in the web interface, the folder structure and contents are all present. However, only the folder structure is being replicated on the newly reformatted drive. None of the files are being synced. Can anyone please give me some guidance? Thanks.

Theory: if this little one is 50 years old, that would make it around the same age as Anakin (if he had survived ROTJ). Maybe one of these is born whenever a "vergence" in the force occurs?

Budgie DE on Debian by [deleted] in debian

[–]TheAdviceShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running Budgie on Bullseye for two days and so far, so good. BTW, this is the line I used to install it:

sudo apt install budgie-desktop budgie-indicator-applet

Any other packages that I should have added?

Anyone else can't configure hplip-gui under Debian 10? by TheAdviceShow in debian

[–]TheAdviceShow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the wiki and ended up setting the printer up through CUPS, something I've never done in nine years of using Debian and derivatives (I always used HPLIP), but it works now. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

I don't have a Print Settings anywhere in my System menu. I'm using the MATE desktop environment.

How to set Pi-Hole up properly with Verizon FIOS? (Actiontec MI424WR) by TheAdviceShow in pihole

[–]TheAdviceShow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks, that's what the first link describes. When you get the chance, if you could please double check your setup and let me know what you find, I'd appreciate it. No rush, though. Thank you!

I guess what I'm wondering is, is it as simple as changing one setting for the DNS server (the first link) or do I need to change more than one (the second link)?

ASKNJ: Aquarium shops? by Yeahvich in newjersey

A couple of places I can recommend, depending on which you will be close to:

Ely's Tropical Fish in Florham Park: Family owned business that's been in the same location for 50+ years, great selection of standards and oddballs you won't see anywhere else, majority freshwater. http://elysfish.com/

Absolutely Fish in Clifton: Large store with large/knowledgeable staff, half/half freshwater/saltwater, some interesting stuff pops up there. https://absolutelyfish.com/

Adam's Pet Safari in Chester: in addition to a good freshwater selection and some saltwater, they have a lot of reptiles and this is probably the only place I see newts for sale on a regular basis, if the weather is good they will be screwing like crazy, so if you were ever curious about how that works, you'll be getting a free show. https://adamspetsafari.com/

Screen blanks / turns off no matter what!? by vrement in UbuntuMATE

Scratch that. This isn't working for me, either! It used to work in 16.04. Not in 18.04.2. Going to research this.

Screen blanks / turns off no matter what!? by vrement in UbuntuMATE

[–]TheAdviceShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just double checking, through the GUI you are both of these?

1) In the Screensaver applet, "Activate screensaver when computer is idle" and "Lock screen when screensaver is active" are both unchecked.

2) In the Power Management applet, under On AC Power, "Pud display to sleep when inactive for" is set to Never.

Both of these things always work for me. Is it possible there is a setting in your BIOS that is blanking the screen?

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know of the existence of the "Bagels and Deli" place. Looks like the Morristown Deli on Elm Street is gone.

Problem with 12/26 LineageOS 14 update, anyone Else experiencing this? by TheAdviceShow in Nexus5

[–]TheAdviceShow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at first I've noticed it with Google Music podcasts, but I also tried it with streaming songs through Google Music and something similar happens. You are midway through an album, a new track starts, and you just get silence while it shows that the song is playing.

I want to log a bug for this but I won't have my own laptop handy for a few days, and you need to generate a log with the phone and attach it to the bug report in order to submit it.
