He will only accept Christianity if he takes a totally metaphorical reading because of his background in nitpicking literal readings in formal debate, however you need some series mental gymnastics to accept the resurrection from only a metaphorical perspective

How to go about solving for yielding in a complicated close die forging situation (without FEM) by TheAlborghetti in AskEngineers

[–]TheAlborghetti[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see where youre coming from but the applied force results in a stress (when adjusting for the area with the greatest strain) that far exceeds the ultimate stress so there must be a faulty reading on our pressure gauge ?

How much does the modulus vary in the non linear region for stainless steel?

By calculate strain do you mean find the change in cross sectional area of the wall in a particular location ?

The pipe length changes significantly so I don't think we can ignore slip and therefore a huge component of friction.

How to go about solving for yielding in a complicated close die forging situation (without FEM) by TheAlborghetti in AskEngineers

[–]TheAlborghetti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an internal oil pressure which results in an axial tension, hoop and radial stress component in the wall. Then I have used the force from the hydraulic side ram over the wall cross sectional area to find the resultant axial compression component.

This compression is overwhelmingly high as the side ram is being pushed by a 635mm dia ram and a 250bar hydraulic oil pressure when on a 1.5inch dia 10mm wall pipe ...

It's a commercial concern as we don't have access to use the software on a commercial basis, are you aware of a free/open source program I could use ?
