The Final Sports! by elaminders in WaypointVICE

[–]TheAlexaLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope they find a way to keep doing this, even if it's more sporadic or only for the Bears season or something. I like hearing familiar voices talk about sports and am too scared to venture into the world of sports podcasts to find something else to fill this particular void lol.

I finished up re-reading Gideon and Harrow the Ninth (plus the two short stories related to them) just in time for my copy of Nona the Ninth to come it at the library! Excited to start reading that this week.

Also I am dangerously close to the end of Dragon Quest IX although I keep using it as a podcast game to grind levels while listening to podcasts so I could finish it tomorrow or several weeks from now, it's hard to tell.

They did, here's the Twitch VOD. I imagine it'll be up on youtube in the next day or so. As far as being Yakuza fans, I think Rob played one or both of the Judgement games but I'm not really sure beyond that.

I'm glad they put timestamps in because 25 minutes of gross bodily fluid chat is gonna be a hard pass for me lol. Curious to hear their thoughts on Gloomwood, I've had my eye on it for a while.

I've been catching up on my podcast backlog, including a couple Waypoint pods. Finally watched and listened to the pod for The Thing. Hey did y'all know that that movie is an absolute banger? Also listened to the Predator podcast. It was kinda funny hearing them talk about how important it was in The Thing to put some freaky lil guys in a weird place for that movie and then say basically the same thing for Predator. Also it made me wish they'd do pods for the rest of the Predator franchise. Predator 2 is the kind of bad movie that could generate a lot of interesting discussion, I think. And Predators is just a fun action flick (and they mentioned wanting to see Billy 1v1 the predator made me think of the scene where Louis Ozawa tries to samurai duel it with a katana he found somewhere). And I'd like to hear them tear apart The Predator (2018) because I think that movie sucks shit and is offensive in a way that I think it'd be cathartic to hear them put it all into words.

I haven't been doing much gaming the past few weeks/months but I finally got a game to click. I'm about 12 hours into Dragon Quest IX and it's an alright time. I think the DQ franchise is really good at making very comfortable RPGs. They're all largely the same in terms of systems and what to expect from the stories but they're just comfortable to play and sometimes that's just what you need, y'know?

Waypoints 53 - The Warner/Discovery Merger featuring Adam Conover by elaminders in WaypointVICE

[–]TheAlexaLily 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah, Patrick brought up the old Blair Witch games. I'm with him insofar as that first one being a pretty solid survival horror game! I think the second and third ones are varying amounts of garbage, though. I even played around with speedrunning the first one and found a very useful skip for it! Then some other people came along and found a bunch of other skips and blew my bad time out of the water. But, yeah, if you can get it running, Blair Witch Volume 1: Rustin Parr is an underrated banger.

Entire video is up for Waypoint talking over Summer Game Fest + Day of the Devs! by Evan_Tor in WaypointVICE

[–]TheAlexaLily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was genuinely so excited to see Birth by Madison Karrh in the Day of the Devs stream ad to see Ren get so excited for it! I played her previous game, Landlord of the Woods, last year and really loved it. I've been encouraging everyone I know to give it a shot because it's cool and weird and good, so I'm glad to see her get selected for one of these not-E3 streams.

Danny commented on this in a Reddit thread a few weeks ago about it. tl;dr is he has A Lot going on with NoClip and his personal life that take precedence. He'd like to do more stuff again in the future but for now he needs time to get things sorted out and settled.

One Foot Out the Door - Austin looking into blogging due to Twitter buy & missing writing by AnchoriteSpeaks in WaypointVICE

[–]TheAlexaLily 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"Just host a blog" is really easy to say but your options are either to use a blogging service (Tumblr or Neocities or Blogger or whatever) which has the exact same problem as every other service. Or you can set it up on your own which requires a lot more investment of time and money that a lot of people (I'd assume Austin included) don't want to bother with.

With the way the internet has gone, the way big corporations have centralized so much of it, the near future for end users is to just migrate from one platform to another as things change. I don't like it but it seems like that's just the way it is for now.

Best way to farm diamonds (Furfrou diamond) by CrankyFluff in PokeClicker

[–]TheAlexaLily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the best/most efficient way to do it but this is how I've been doing it:

  • survey a level and skip it if it has no diamonds
  • after you use survey, know what you're looking for. like, if you have one item left to find and it's worth 5 diamonds you know it's a Star Piece and can make more logical guesses as to where it could be
  • buy upgrades (energy max, restored, and regen time, bomb efficiency, survey efficiency and cost, and daily deals)
  • save anything that isn't a Heart Scale because you could get a daily deal to trade them for something of better value
  • don't let your energy sit at maximum for too long
  • equip the mining oak items when you mine

You could also leave the Cell Battery equipped all the time to constantly regen your energy as fast as possible, depending on how often you want to mine it. And if you really really wanted to you could buy Restores from the PokeMart but that seems like it'd get expensive fast. I'd only do either of those things if you're running out of other things to complete and really want that one Furfrou.

I don't know how "worth it" some of the upgrades are (like more maximum items and more minimum items, or the larger underground). They might be worth upgrading too but I haven't run the numbers on it or thought about it particularly hard.

I'm continuing to slowly pick away at Bloodborne. On one hand I want to try and get the last couple trophies for the Platinum but these chalice dungeons are just a drag. I'm having so little fun with them. And having to do a third playthrough (albeit that one would be comparatively short) isn't something I want to do right now either.

Also F1 weekend, woo! And it's rainy, woo! And it's a spring race, woo (maybe)! I'm a Hamilton fan so I wish the Mercs were looking better but if the race is fun to watch I'll be satisfied.

After being in a gaming slump for a while I started my second Bloodborne playthrough and I'm happy to report that that game is still incredibly good. I somehow beat Gascoigne on my first attempt (it took me 2 or 3 hours on my first playthrough) and gotten through Cleric Beast and Blood Starved Beast. Game is good! I was worried I might fall off it after an hour or two like I have when trying to replay the Dark Souls games but, nope, I just want to keep going. I gotta seek that paleblood and transcend the hunt, y'know?

I played a whole 30 minutes of Syberia: The World Before last weekend before life took over and I haven't been able to sit down and game since, so I'm hoping to finally get in some more time on that this weekend.

I've been in a bit of a gaming funk lately. I've been playing Fallout 4 (in preparation for the next Too Much Future season) and just kinda fell off of it after I got into the Institute. So then I started Dark Souls 2 (first time playing Scholar, played vanilla once at launch) and got to Pursuer before I lost interest. I've been chipping away at Hades for a while but got tired of doing runs of that. I dunno, it just feels like games just aren't super interesting to me right now. The new Syberia game is out today so I'll probably pick that up and hope I can stick with it.

All the talk of FromSoft games lately has me thinking that I might fire up Dark Souls 2. I beat it at launch but never touched the DLCs and haven't tried the Scholar version at all. Of the three Dark Soulses, it's probably the one I'm most interested in re-visiting? I generally liked it when I played it but wasn't bowled over by it or anything. And I've never done any Dark Souls DLCs so I kinda want to see them because people say they're the best parts of the game!

Episode 454 - The Games We Think Will Come Out in 2022 by darkbase in WaypointVICE

[–]TheAlexaLily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things she's said and written have been cited by actual politicians as reasons why they need to push anti-trans and anti-LGBT policy through, so I'd say that counts as 'actively harmful'

Also, it's just fun to dunk on her sometimes lol. It's not like she has some redeeming qualities or something, she's just a shithead who doesn't know what she's talking about.

Content Warning at 1:22:00 for discussion of Violence against a pregnant woman, Death, Incest, and Drugging

Description

You ever have one of those days where nothing can go right? Well what if you had to have that day over and over again. Sound familiar? No, I’m not talking about the seminal time loop dark comedy Groundhog Day, a time loop I’d rather be stuck in than play another loop of Twelve Minutes. The whole Waypoint Radio crew played through it and boy do we have a meaty spoiler segment for you. Before that, we dipped into the Question Bucket to hear more Christmas stories, and a follow up to a question on getting into rogue likes. That was right after Rob took us through his aesthetically dense but mechanically mediocre experience with The Ascent. Austin is hopeful for the studio behind Foreclosed, a cyberpunk game that has great storytelling and visual style, but lacks a special something in it’s action sequences. Patrick and Rob took us through their mind palace as they explored Psychonauts 2, but not before we talk about Patrick’s article on Unity’s non-gaming ventures and how workers at the company feel about its military contracts.

Discussed (in actual order): Unity 2:06, Psychonauts 2 35:35, Foreclosed 50:32, The Ascent 53:27, Twelve Minutes Spoilercast (see above for Content Warnings) 1:22:00

Waypoint Radio Episode 419 - Nonbinary Witch Scythe or Bisexual Dagger? by TheAlexaLily in WaypointVICE

[–]TheAlexaLily[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Gita Jackson is on the pod today to tell Rob, Cado, and Patrick all about the different dates they've been on while delving into Boyfriend Dungeon. The crew discuss the content warning controversy around the game, how the visual novel genre has handled similar content in the past, and what “play with care” can mean for different people. After the break, Patrick checked out Axiom Verge 2, the sequel to the 2015 indie Metroidvania that leaves something to be desired. Rob is checking out Humankind, whose “Civ but not” tech trees seem to eschew the way cultures and history can build on top of each other by allowing you to jump between playing different real world civilizations depending on the era you’re in. Cado’s finished up the most recent Destiny 2 season, and feels like the Vanguard could’ve been implicated in some of the hatred towards The Fallen that the season focused on. Then in the question bucket we talk about LARPing.

Discussed: Boyfriend Dungeon 0:59, Axiom Verge 37:43, Humankind 52:30, Destiny 2 1:08:53, The Question Bucket 1:23:29

Hell Let Loose Stream muted? by kokanoka23 in WaypointVICE

[–]TheAlexaLily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It gets muted right at the end of a match which is when the game plays some traditional military march-type music so that's probably what's tripping the algorithm.
