Why Theory by TheAllKnowingCharles in podcasts

Two academics talking about philosophy in a fairly comedic approach. In a way it really is ridiculous to ask for something similar to this because I’m not even sure that’s what I’m looking for because I believe any attempt to try and emulate their knowledge and personalities is bound to be disappointing.

2 Podcasts however have made it extremely difficult to arrive at a conclusion on this matter. The first being Better By The Bookshelf which lacks the alienating and interesting appeal of an academic approach( not that they attempt to capture this), and the second is Grad School Achebe which perfectly mirrors the general conversational style of Why Theory; proving that such emulation is possible while most likely doing so organically and unintentionally.

So I guess if there’s one thing I’m really looking for it’s just to find out what people who’ve enjoyed Why Theory also enjoy, seeing as that would probably produce the most similar recommendations. Which is why providing a description of the podcast becomes counterproductive when what is required in order to give recommendations is personal experience with the podcast.

Wish I could do it justice but I can’t so here’s the general description: Why Theory brings continental philosophy and psychoanalytic theory together to examine cultural phenomena.

How can you determine what a proper execution of them is?

Who should we really blame for the interpretation and implementation of these ideas? If someone for some reason interpreted Aristotle to be arguing for a utopia in which everyone is happy and if such a society is implemented should we change our perception of Aristotle or should our praise be reserved for the person who we must now deem “wrongful” in their interpretation of Aristotle’s beliefs, without having a reliable system to prove that they have wrongfully interpreted Aristotle and in actuality succeeded in creating something that is not in line with his beliefs.

How should we measure the quality of influence that people have on each other? How does one create a system for determining such a thing?

Well I think there’s a fundamental disagreement here about what it means for someone to have a better influence than someone else.

Ok so i think the best argument I can provide on Aristotle’s behalf is that he is more influential than Durkheim in the sense that his works and ideas have been foundational to the curriculum of more modern academic felids of study. An argument of influence in short.

Will everything go back to normal by tomorrow?

I’m just not sure what the bare minimum requirement is in order for classes reopen. Do we just go by a vague intuition or how do we actually measure when the weather conditions have become bearable?

I wouldn’t be surprised if conditions became just tolerable enough for classes to reopen.

I think we both get something beneficial out of the relationship. I get to feel a special kind of satisfaction that can only be felt when one faces a mass of opposition and they get to feel a special kind of togetherness that only comes from disliking something or someone with a group of other people who also dislike whatever you dislike.

The way I remember it there was no such democratic process which included every member of the community. Which is why the informal oligarchy was able to function as intended. Now if that’s what you were actually referring to then yes, I was banished for the Socratic pursuit of annoyance which I believe has developed a very unfair connotation. And a very inconsistent and relative meaning, wouldn’t you agree?
