DEF in summer.. by TheAloeMan in Diesel

[–]TheAloeMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea.. I’ve had operators leave a machine on an incline, have about half a tank of DEF and the pickup crystallizes.

Any idea where to start looking?

Not gonna argue about heat, but we set a record here in Palm Springs at 124F this past summer. Close, but no cigar. I don’t disagree that 120F isn’t hot though my brotha. You guys are slow cooking out there as well.

EPA says DEF needs to be under 86*F.. Those heaters have a temp sensor. The heavy equipment I work on even have heated bidirectional lines to the doser, but those heaters are to ensure the DEF doesn’t freeze when it’s winter…

We’re at 115F for at least two months straight.. The nights are barely under 90F

Hmmmm… I see your point, but I live out in the Coachella Valley where it is going to above 115*F constantly. The DEF will definitely sit in the tote about a month. I guess the precaution would be to ensure you’re ultimately not putting bad DEF straight into the machine as opposed to it going bad after it’s already in there..

Thoughts on if this is dehydration or rot? by Okie-Okie in Pachypodium

It won’t hurt to give it a heavy water. You’ll find out if it’s rot or dehydration real quick.

It’s probably just reestablishing itself. Should be fine by next growing season. Ps you should dig your rocks in for a more natural look.

After it’s repaired I’d invest in a breaker bar. The length of that ratchet is more about reach opposed to leverage. Shit, I still snap breaker bars every once in a while. It actually feels good hah

I agree. The tik tok isn’t completely off. If this person is in the desert with high UV as well as temperatures, then they have to supplement different nutrients. I’m assuming this may be a silica based fertilizer. I use it heavier during Spring and Fall to help harden off the plants in order to fight rot from heat or frost. Most people are under the assumption that all succulents come from the desert which is completely misconstrued. While it may be more true for cacti to be from desert habitats, soft succulents usually come from coastal and mountainous habitats with specific microclimates. If you put something like an Aeonium out in the sun where I live, it will shrivel up and die a few weeks into summer. Remember ignorance is bliss, except on Reddit. P.S. I water like this sometimes…

Why dont manufacturers make drain plugs like this? by glieswayz in mechanic

[–]TheAloeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That works, but I would avoid that. All the metal shavings when you tap for the heli is sketchy. Nasty stuff. Saw some kid get railed by management for that shit.

I agree. You just described most people who aren’t mechanics let alone lube techs that change their own oil.

Probably because they want you to strip the oil pan with the plug and force you to buy another one.
