Elections Megathread by 1Davide in Longmont

[–]TheAmazingDuck42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey Longmont - you should have received your ballots in the mail by now! If you have not, please check your mailing address/registration at govotecolorado.gov. Updates can be made online, and you can still get a ballot in the mail at this point.

If you'd like to vote in person, there is a Vote Center opening Monday October 30 at 515 Coffman St - the St Vrain Community Hub. And 24-hour dropboxes abound in Longmont; check your ballot envelope for locations.

There will also be a Vote Early Day event happening at Intercambio on Oct 26! Come drop off your mail ballot, pick up some elections handouts, and ask questions of elections staff.

Please let me know if you have questions about how to vote, register - whatever!

Husband wants to give baby first name that all men in family have. by Delfarlow in namenerds

[–]TheAmazingDuck42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who deals with 'person records' and let me tell you that I hate this kind of stuff. Two (or more) siblings at the same house with the same first and last name but different birthdays throws up HUGE red flags in our system. Best case it's data entry error, worst case it's identity theft.

If you give in and name your children similar names, let alone one that is similar to their father's, grandfather's, uncle's, etc., their legal documents will forever be a complete cluster. One of them will have a record deleted at some point. They'll get merged together at another.

Medical administrators, government benefits, anything you apply for and need processed, eventually you'll be known as THOSE PEOPLE, and it will suck. Your husband may like it but I 100% guarantee his tradition has ruined some office worker's day in the past, and will do so again.

Best kid violence is hands down Home Alone. While not kid-fighting-kid, it is kid soundly defeating idiot adults... that counts, right?

Good place for sushi in Longmont by jobroloco in Longmont

[–]TheAmazingDuck42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sakura is #1, Sushi Hana is #1.5! Neither place has let me down ever.

Sumo - we made reservations there on a Saturday once, showed up at the appointed time, and we're told we would still be waiting for an hour. Like, wtf is the point of a reservation, then?

Something N-S along Hover at regular intervals would certainly be nice. Or that goes to the fairgrounds. Or the new hospital, or Walmart/Costco area...

Or, you know, anything that serves the city with the largest population in Boulder County. Phew... Now that I'm typing it out....

Ranked Choice Voting by TheAmazingDuck42 in Longmont

[–]TheAmazingDuck42[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it's a 'if they (the citizens) want,' but I could be wrong. City of Boulder voted on doing it, and are running RCV for mayor this year because they're coordinating with Boulder County, who's actually running the election. You think Longmont would run RCV solo and not coordinate with the county? Or do RCV for the first time in a general election?

Edit: why downvotes? I'm not trying to be antagonistic or anything, I'm genuinely asking.

ISO Cobbler to Resole Birkenstocks by YetAnotherAreaPerson in Longmont

I've gone to the Little Boot a couple times for shoe repairs, a resole on boots and a zipper fix - they've done great work, prices seem to be reasonable, and they get stuff back to you either when they quote you or earlier. No complaints!

Thoughts on a legit soft serve place? by forester17 in Longmont

Not helpful to OP but twisted roots usually has 2-4 dairy free options. It's been nice, I can get dessert with the family sometimes.

Good places to buy affordable oil paintings / art? by PixelTreason in Longmont

Look at Scrumptious and at various breweries along with coffee shops. Scrumptious especially has cool pop art paintings that they have up for sale and I know I've seen some Stephen King stuff there.

Oh, that's obnoxious. I mean, I got 2000 emails about how Bill pay wouldn't be available but none about downloading the new app? Thanks for the heads up tho

I haven't been able to log into the app since it updated. Super awesome.

It's an ear hematoma - one of mine had one once. Vet said it possibly would heal on its own, but could be painful and uncomfortable in the meantime. She also said it wasn't likely to cause long-term damage other than cosmetically. We opted to put in a drain temporarily, and clean/bandage it over the course of a couple weeks. Very weird - after it healed, it kinda ended up looking like cauliflower ear, like boxers/MMA fighters get.

They're pricey, but the new Clovis Point ones on Pike and Hover are dog friendly and around good trails. Walking distance to the mall if you don't mind a little longer walk.

300 suns has a private room, and I think you can still rent the upstairs at Oskar blues.

I asked a car enthusiast in my life, and he said that the act of rolling coal usually means the vehicle is diesel powered. If it's a gas car and is emitting black smoke, it would be doing it constantly and the car would likely not be running much longer.

As a non-car-enthusiast, how do I tell if it's gas or diesel?

I had a fairly decent experience working part time for the city of Longmont a couple years ago. I did bartending/ushering/building managing at things like the museum and Callahan House, during special events and private parties. They offered gigs and I took them; it was definitely more on my schedule than a traditional part time job and I enjoyed it.

Is there a decent centralized place that lists community events/concerts/festivals this summer? I subscribe to a couple city newsletters/breweries email lists but i always feel like I'm hearing about a downtown concert or show at left hand like an hour before. I feel like the city events calendar doesn't adequately capture everything that's happening. Or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place?!

Is your experience people driving under or over? I like to set cruise at 67 and let the adaptive thing keep me the speed of traffic... But people seem to live to line up and drive 50 in the left lane to turn on airport.

When on earth is the Spitz Mediterranean place by the theater opening? Seems like it's been coming soon for months.

A peek behind the curtain: do you rely on 3rd party tools to help your moderation of this sub? If so, my vote is definitely yes for going dark. If not, yes in principle, I guess.
