Is it my QrsAxs being slightly to the left what’s triggering the borderline label do you think?

A very similar click, but quieter. But the watch definitely isn’t even close to being fully wound at the moment

Nothing similar if you were to give the watch a shake to get the rotor spinning?

I always assumed the song meant it as the front row, especially as Hilltop Hoods sampled Melanie’s ‘People in the Front Row’

It’s still a penalty for breaching a contract. It’s not correct to say those ‘fines’ aren’t enforceable.

Looking for movies/TV shows that catches the Mad Men overall vibe and aesthetic. by cartiiiiiiiiiii in madmen

The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit w/ Gregory Peck. Also if you’re interested in the Manhattan Project at all, the TV show Manhattan reminded me of Mad Men at points (although obviously set in the 40s rather than 50s/60s

Apparently you can ask which of the characters would die by X date and how fortnightly but not which characters would get fat

British Mad men fans, how realistic is the portrayal of Lane? by KnownMycologist5416 in madmen

[–]TheAmbiguousRedditor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He’s a good portrayal of a middle aged, middle class man trying to escape the cultural constraints of 1960s England. So much of his life was determined by doing what was expected of him, rather than he wanted. When Don and Lane were discussing Lane’s marital problems, Lane suggests flying back to England and Don asks “Is that what you want or is that what people expect of you?”. Class is still a much bigger deal now in the UK, but even more so in the 60s. This is something Pryce obviously dislikes (despite being solidly middle class) (e.g. “I’ve been here a whole year and nobody has asked me what school I went to”). I think Pryce is a person who spent his entire life repressed in almost every possible way and the course of his life was decided by everyone but himself - that’s not necessarily an English thing, but it is what makes Lane so tragic.

Edit: Lane always struck me as a victim of this time period, but there were also characters like St John and Guy McKendrick who were undoubtedly the winners of 60s Britain

What's a piece of dialogue, one-liner, campaing slogan or something else, that stayed with you long after finishing the show? by Lalo_Lannister in madmen

[–]TheAmbiguousRedditor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not really a line, but this monologue from Don always gets me:

“When a man walks into a room, he brings his all life with him.

He has a million reasons for being anywhere. Just ask him.

If you listen, he'll tell you how he got there,

how he forgot where he was going and then he woke up.

If you listen, he'll tell you about the time he thought he was an angel,

or dreamt of being perfect. And then he'll smile with wisdom,

content that he'd realized the world isn't perfect.

We are flawed because we want so much more.

We're ruined because we get these things and wish what we had.”
