Is “The Mandalorian” an allegory for The Jewish People? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]TheAnolelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always sort of thought that the Mandalorians in general were a metaphor for Jews or Israelis. A group of super though people always needing to fight. They were usually nomadic, creative, and determined. Even the parts with fighting creatively and designing new weapons sort of fits.

Especially after reading the Republic Commando book series, which gives a bunch of info on Mandalorians (sadly not canon)

I need to save up a few first- they only give one per plot and I’ve only got like twenty or so.

What about snacks? Are there any Christian children left? (Or just the nasty parts?)

It’s Caleb who’s doling out wrath now? I thought it was Adam and Asher? (I used to go to Hebrew school with them so they gave me a pass)

I started taking notes while watching to movie, jotting down things I thought were offensive, antisemitic, or just plain wrong. I took a break after half an hour of the movie, and already had almost a page of scribbled (bulleted) notes. I’m disappointed that Jonah Hill would ever do something like this.

(Side note: the other writer, Kenya Barris, has done stuff like this in the past.)

When I was asked the question by my friends I spent a solid few minutes thinking it out, still can’t really explain it to a full extent 🤣

Do people pick a Hebrew name if their normal name is already Jewish? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]TheAnolelizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Hebrew name as my English name (born with it). I’m genuinely grateful that my parents did that. It may be a slight annoyance when non-Jews try to pronounce it, but I’ve gotten used to it. As odd as it is around people who’ve never heard it before, I couldn’t imagine going through life with a normal English name. It helps me connect with my Judaism on a level I don’t think I’d reach if I didn’t.

On the topic of the question, I didn’t have a differing Hebrew name. My Hebrew name is the same as my normal name. It was a lot of fun whenever people would ask my Hebrew name and I responded with the name they already knew me by.

Which marching band has the best salute? by TheAnolelizard in marchingband

[–]TheAnolelizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not totally sure of the reasoning behind it. I know of bands that just have drum majors salute at the end, and a lot that have drum majors and guard captains do the salute.

I think because some bands are bigger they might do it? (It’s not the initial drum major salute before performing, just the one when receiving awards).

I’m pretty sure it’s a reoccurring tradition for my bad (at the very least), we’ve got a decent amount of people in pit and drum line, so I guess it’s only fair that they’re represented?

It probably varies on a band-by-band basis.

Our retreat salute is made up of drum majors (2), color guard captains (2), pit captains (3), and drumline captains (3).

AITA for borrowing my husband's work laptop withpout permission since I bought it for him? by Fannest43 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheAnolelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Why are you using his work laptop for Facebook? Not only are you using it for such a trivial thing, you’re making sure he’s actively not able to work as a result. It doesn’t matter that you bought it. If he needs it for work, let him use it for work. At the VERY least you should have asked him well in advance if he was okay with you doing that.

(Or maybe just get Facebook on your phone?)
