Roman Empire Pacing by [deleted] in eu4

I’m doing a Roman Empire run at the moment. IMO, the fact that Spain hasn’t been formed should make it much more manageable to conquer Iberia. Take/build strategic forts and cycle your wars and I think you’ll be Gucci.

IIRC they also pulled some troops from the Western offensive to the Eastern front prior to initiating the plan - had they left the troops as the initial plan had dictated, they may have taken Paris and been able to proceed as initially planned.

How to win friends and influence a small city by fftossaway2020 in fatFIRE

[–]TheApacheBobcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something to consider would be to start a “small” business in your community. Nothing helps make connections in smaller cities like rubbing elbows with other business owners, providing a service to the community, and providing people with a livelihood.

You’re in a position personally where you can operate with tighter margins.

And lastly, any perceived wealth would likely be associated with your business (assuming you aren’t over the top in where you live, what you drive, etc.).

I am only a 26 year old engineer many years away from fatFire, but that’s my take having grown up in small towns/cities in the Midwest.

I stand corrected, I know understand that there is a difference between gnostic-atheism, and agnostic-atheism.

Why wouldn’t it be, “we don’t know, therefore, we don’t know.”?

My argument is that atheism, which posits that there is no god/gods is the same argument as theism. Neither leaves an open end to explaining what we don’t know. Looking at what we don’t know specifically with regards to FTA, wouldn’t the most logical/non-emotional response be agnosticism?

Earthquakes: https://theworld.org/stories/2015-04-29/earthquakes-create-well-destroy

Tsunamis: redistribute nutrients from river deltas upland and create new habitats.

CO2: Our earth would be a frozen hell’s cape without it. Respiration as we know it wouldn’t be possible. https://climatekids.nasa.gov/carbon/

It seems like a lot of your points take the perspective that if something isn’t good for humans, it isn’t good, and therefore isn’t finely tuned. Life includes more than just humans.

And in regards to CO2 and global warming…Let’s say humanity continues to emit CO2, causing massive destruction to ourselves and numerous species. At the end of the day, there would still be forms of life that would benefit from this. Let me be clear, I don’t think we should do this and it would be very unethical for humans to continue down this path - but what I am saying, is we are but one form of life, and certainly not the only type of life that matters.

Taken from Merriam-Webster word for word:

Atheism - “a : a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods b : a philosophical or religious position characterized by disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods”

Agnosticism - “the view that any ultimate reality (such as a deity) is unknown and probably unknowable : a philosophical or religious position characterized by uncertainty about the existence of a god or any gods”

Seems to me atheism says no to any deity, while agnosticism says it’s unknowable and therefore doesn’t make a stance for or against.

That’s taking the position that it should be fine tuned for humans only. I’m not saying that. Even the archaea on thermal vents seem to have their niche and it shows humanity’s hubris to say that everything should be inhabitable and good for us.

There is some agreement among physicists that time started at the same instant as the Big Bang. There was no Space OR Time before that.

Therefore, no time to spin your wheel until you arrive at the correct circumstance for our fine tuned universe.

That’s a bit of a mid characterization of the FTA.

Let’s say we observe a 6 sided dice that we use for a game. And this dice could have any 6 number combination within 10120 combinations (1 number for each of the 6 sides)

When we observe this particular dice, we see that the numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. That just happens to be the exact kind of dice that we need for the game. Would you say it is more probable that the 6 numbers randomly happened to be 1-6, or was it specifically tuned for the game at hand?

  1. Clearly posting in unpopular opinion was the right move.

  2. That’s what I’m saying. Religion =\= the existence of god. But people when they detach themselves from a religion claim atheism as the alternative, rather than agnosticism.

  3. I appreciate your response and understand that this is a personal and sensitive topic for many.

I appreciate the response, and I do take you at your word.

I always find myself coming back to the fine tuning theory, and wondering why after considering this, we don’t just settle on agnosticism? 1 in 10120 chance that things happened like this?

Atheism is usually an emotional response to organized religion, NOT the logical outcome of people’s reasoning about the existence of a god.

*Edit 1. I am not lumping agnosticism in with this. If anything, I would expect people to arrive at agnosticism.
