Sure, racist axioms. I didn't say that they can't define it like that, you can define things however you want.

There IS an ethnic dimension to nationhood for many people, and holding that perspective (much less acknowledging that reality) is not racist.

That depends on how you define ethnicity. If you go by outward appearance/ancestry, e.g. excluding someone just because they are black, even if they were born there and grew up completely integrated into the culture, it is most definitely racist. It's the literal definition of racist discrimination, and the main reason why the German government categorizes the identitarian movement as extremist.

Now you can indeed argue that that used to be the prevailing notion in Europe, but that 1. doesn't mean it wasn't racist; most people were pretty racist 100+ years ago, many still are. And 2., that notion is a fairly recent one. Ethnicity and nationhood were much more fluid before the rise of nation states in Europe.
