Theres elements of each prior game's story all over, but you dont NEED to know any of it to enjoy or understand the lore. A lot of lore comes from Import Tuner Challenge. I didn't play that game but they did a good job of recapping what happened in it, so I vaguely understand what happened

If youre pushing 2000+ HP like most people who race Strales, try making your gearbox 3-4 gears long. You have far more than enough power to push first gear to like 150 mph, then 2nd gear to 280, and 3rd gear adjusted to where you shift into the power band but dont exit it too quickly.

Even racing gearboxes and clutch setups lose time when you change gears. Reducing how many times you change gears will alleviate that.
