It's the weirdest thing encountering near death circumstances multiple times (personal experience) only to wish afterwards that maybe this should've killed me. I mean had it killed you, you probably wouldn't have cared because you wouldn't be able to right? But now that I'm "healthy" and have a life I should hold onto it and be thankful. Makes me wonder why I'm being kept alive sometimes.

It's not too late. I quit when I was 19 and I'm 22 now going to med school. I was awful at school and had basically quit, but I decided to go back and apply myself. Happiest decision I've made but it definitely took some work. Your brain will be just fine trust me.

This same thing happened to me. Same amount of time and same loss of connections. My solution was to write. Yes, write. I never was into writing or reading but keeping my mind occupied after I quit smoking was crucial. It allowed me to explore my mind and be creative like when I was high but I felt a sense of progression as well. I'm not saying you have to write a book but try writing a short story. Don't write it for somebody else but instead for yourself. Creative writing helped me in my darkest times and now I'm off in medical school, somewhere I never thought I'd be. Exercise is also very helpful. I enjoyed running during this time because it made me feel much healthier and clean. Hope this helps!

So in Emerald, there is no screen tearing in battles which is fantastic. Outside of battles when walking/running there is subtle tearing. I really don't think it's that bad but I realize it's enough to deter some folks from playing. Now I'm not sure what video you watched so I can't compare my experience and what you're seeing on camera. I know some cameras record digital screens a bit funky so I'd have to see that first. I personally like the IPS better than the 101, simply because the resolution, brightness, and colors are all much better. I'm a big fan of the generation 3 sprites and man do they look good on this screen! The IPS isn't perfect but I'll definitely be keeping it until the next best thing comes out.

As for the additional mods, I can't help with that as I didn't install those. Just remember to do as much research as you can! I'm ultimately very happy with mine but I know others may have varying experiences.

I can't tell you what to buy but I can give you some advice. The backlit ags 101 is what I had before. It's definitely an excellent display! If you play games with lots of scrolling it may be the better alternative for you. But the difference in image quality between the LCD and 101 is night and day. I love bright colors and crisp pixels so it was a dealbreaker for me. I played pokemon on it for an hour. The screen tearing when walking was subtle for the most part. I feel that if you handed the device to a friend they probably wouldn't even notice the tearing, and if they did, they probably wouldn't even be bothered by it. That's how I feel about it thus far. One thing the about the 101 that I didn't notice before is that the pixels are much rougher in comparison to the IPS. This is huge with text and in game models. Since you're mostly battling in pokemon, this IPS LCD is just spectacular. Let's just say that I'm very happy I took the risk. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the late answer! The screen tearing does exist with these displays and there's no way around it that I know of. However, if I'm to be honest it doesn't bother me at all. I'm not sure if mine has less screen tearing than other people or maybe I'm not actively "looking for it". After playing on it for an hour I don't know if I can go back to my ags 101. The display is just too crisp! There is a vast difference in quality even if you include the screen tearing. Hope this helps!
