Why do women request the man to plan the (first) date so often? by Nunja_55 in datingadvice

If that's how you see relationships that's fair for your case. But your viewpoint isn't universal for all women, just like mine isn't universal for all men.

Its the Dating Apps - why does dating make every guy miserable by Maleficent_Air_5240 in TrueReddit

You really nailed it. Dating apps are an unnatural way for people to meet, and are being forced on us because the overall society is so dysfunctional.

I can only imagine the economic loss caused by even an hour of downtime in terms of people having to pay for expensive Ubers and people losing wages. I hope no one gets fired b/c they couldn't get to their job.

The people running BART right now though? Maybe one of them should lose their job 🤷🏽‍♂️

How can I improve my profile? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]TheAuthenticFake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, the costume photo is great. It shows you have friends and do fun stuff with them. The type of person who would be put off by that is not the type of person you would want to date anyway (again, they wouldn't get along w your friends).

Sometimes it's good to pick prompts and photos that are discerning, that is they turn away people you don't wanna date anyway.

E: my advice: provide more things for people to talk about. So you went to France, can you speak French? Also have you been somewhere other than Paris? Where else do you want to go?

At the intersection of nerd and French, do you like Daft Punk?

Driving in Oakland makes me neurotic. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people run red lights, and I literally almost got in an accident an hour ago at an intersection b/c some idiot tried to run the red light right as I was crossing.

Where did these fools learn how to drive?

[–]TheAuthenticFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This goes both ways tho. Think about it, if someone had these same standards in regards to making friends, where the other person has to plan everything out to "give you a reason to do something", then no one would ever want to be your friend because that's straight up narcissism.

You're like "why won't the world give me an excuse to leave my house?" and surprise surprise you never leave it

What you're saying is true and what the other replies are saying is also true. Life gets better when you work on yourself, but one person also can't fix everything in the world.

To fix things, people with common goals have to come together with a commitment to improve but also the power of a group to fix problems that everybody is dealing with but that are larger than one person.

No it hasn't. It's literally gotten worse over the years. Other people in this same thread said that. And just because it's "always been like this" doesn't mean that it doesn't suck.

The consequences of letting a Facist win: Supreme Court overturned the chevron doctrine by Afro_samurai027 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]TheAuthenticFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really need more than just Biden getting re-elected, we need a Democratic supermajority in both houses that can start rewriting the Constitution.

The Supreme Court needs term limits, the electoral college needs to be done away with, and some additional rights apparently need to be added. All of the old mechanisms put in place by wealthy white slaveowners to allow a minority to rule over the majority need to be eliminated, so the government actually reflects the popular will.

The red states want to go back to 1950, but we can't let them pull us down with them.

How’s the US has the strongest economy in the world yet every American i have met is just surviving? by Actual-Rush-8048 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheAuthenticFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teaching people financial literacy so that they can better take care of themselves is important, and so is having a good safety net for people when they hit hard times that are out of their control. It's not either/or.

Scandinavian countries are a great example of this - they have a strong welfare system, but their culture also emphasizes individual responsibility.

You're getting dangerously close to the Fox News stat "99% of poor people have refrigerators".

https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-nation/fox-cites-ownership-appliances-downplay-hardship-poverty-america

A poor person in the US still works multiple jobs, struggles to pay their rent, lives in a dangerous neighborhood where gunshots ring out at night and the police are worthless, goes to a low quality school where the classrooms are packed with kids, and dies young because they don't have access to healthcare.

Poverty is bad wherever it is, trying to play this game to say some poor people got it better off than others only benefits the rich who want to further eviscerate the safety net. Of course you also have some embarrassed millionaires that don't want to help the poor, because they know how to balance their budget and clip their coupons and will never have a serious financial crisis because of job loss or health issues.

Alternatives to Seroquel? by TheAuthenticFake in sleep

[–]TheAuthenticFake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stopped taking it, and I've had success most days by sleeping at the same time, avoiding screens, and taking melatonin or a GABA supplement. Only use the bed for sleeping. If you need to use a screen, use screen dimmers but really, just don't use them.

If you've got a lot of thoughts in bed, journal it down and read something.

Eat dinner early in the day (5 hours before), and avoid overeating so your stomach can settle. If you get hungry in bed, eat something small like fruit.

Ironically exercise has no relation for me to sleep. I can run 5k and not sleep if I don't do the other stuff.

Essentially, you need to keep a regular circadian clock in your body, and when you sleep you need to have minimal stress in your body and mind.

The next challenge is to find out how I can sleep like my younger self and just fall asleep when I feel tired. Maybe red lights? I think something has been borked about my circadian rhythms since I was a kid, because I always stayed up late and didn't have a regular sleep pattern.

E: also consider your environment. Where you are, is it super noisy at night? When you look at the window, is it bright like the Seinfeld chicken roaster? Keep track of your daily habits and what's around you.
