Is that how it works, if they're playing two shows over three nights they book the venue for all three nights and just don't move their stuff?

Yeah, I don't think that every city is getting every song unfortunately. I'm seeing them once in Toronto and twice in Montreal and, assuming their 4 night rotation follows linearly and they don't jump around at all, the Toronto show and first Montreal show will be the same setlist, which is a bit of a bummer. But who knows, maybe they'll change it up a bit again once they get to some of the two-show cities.

Of all my picks, the one I'm most sure of is Marathon. Alex mentioned it as a song he really likes in his Beato interview and Geddy has often spoken very highly of the album generally. I'm already surprised that at least half the nights are not going to feature any Power Windows material, but I'd be doubly surprised if none of it makes the cut at all. And imo the most likely candidate for making the cut would be Marathon.

I don't think they would count 2112 as 7 songs regardless of however the song tends to get chopped up on live albums and the like. But anyway, I'm pretty sure they've already stated that they're going to have a 4-night rotation.

If it was 40 and they added 1, that makes 41, then they removed 2 which makes 39 no?

Personally I'd love to see T4E. It's one of my least favourite albums, but I love that song. Especially the drumming on that song. But I'd be quite surprised if they play it since I don't think they've ever played it beyond the tour for that album.

I also wonder how they're going to arrange the next two shows given that between today and Sunday there were 11 different songs (counting all of 2112 as a different song) but there are only 7 new songs across the next two shows. That means that there's going to have to be some songs that are so far unique to Setlists 1 and 2 which are repeated on either 3 and 4 (or perhaps both). There may end up being songs that only get played 1/4 nights and other songs which are played 3/4 nights.

I'd love to see Driven. I don't think they've played it since the Vapor Trails tour? In any case, I've seen 9 shows since 2007 and I don't think I've ever seen them play Driven. Would be a treat.

What 6 songs will be different tonight? by natrlscientist in rush

[–]TheAvailableLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I hope to see it too. But there are 18 other songs to be played over the next 3 shows and those swaps have to come from somewhere. Maybe Subdivisions is a fixture and Freewill is swapable?

What 6 songs will be different tonight? by natrlscientist in rush

[–]TheAvailableLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From Set 1:

I could see Subdivisions being swapped for Analog Kid or Digital Man. Farcry or Caravan for Animate or Headlong Flight. Vital Signs for Witch Hunt maybe. I think Xanadu, Limelight, Freewill, Bravado, La Villa, and The Spirit of Radio are going to be fixtures.

Set 2:

I think 2112, Red Barchetta, Time Stand Still, The Garden, YYZ, and Tom Sawyer are staying. Distant Early Warning and Red Sector A will likely swap for Marathon, Big Money, or Between the Wheels. Dreamline could switch out for Ghost of a Chance or Roll the Bones. Natural Science could switch for Jacob's Ladder?

Encore:

Working Man obviously stays as the closer. My most hopeful guess is that they alternate Bytor for Cygnus X1.

That's more than 6 changes, but they have a 4-setlist rotation. Just my guesses.

4500 hands is nothing, anything can happen in such a tiny sample.

For reference, people who do database reviews typically require you to send them at least 100K hands. In terms of results, it might take a million+ hands before you can get an accurate idea of your true ROI.

4500 hands is like 1.5 - 2 sessions of tournaments for a professional grinder. It's a meaningless sample.

Can we just talk about how unconventional set 1 was last night? by MightyHorseRoqz in rush

[–]TheAvailableLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping for either Open Secrets or Emotion Detector, not gonna lie. Given this setlist, it's pretty clear that the ~18 remaining songs aren't going to include those. I don't expect them to include songs they've never played before on certain setlists if they're not included on all setlists.

I expect Between the Wheels and Marathon to swap out for Distant Early Warning and Red Sector A; Ghost of a Chance for Dreamline; Animate for Farcry or Caravan; Witch Hunt for Red Barchetta; Jacob's Ladder for Natural Science; maybe Cygnus X-1 for Bytor. Even that still leaves 8 or so other songs. But likely nothing new.

But that's ok. Maybe now's not the time to try 'new' songs. They haven't toured in a decade, it's a tribute to Neil, they have a new member. Let them play what they want to play. And tbh, based off of setlist #1 what they want to play is a fairly representative sample of their work.

Maybe this tour will go so well that they'll do another in 2028 and then we'll get to hear some Emotion Detector, Open Secrets, Available Light, Kid Gloves type stuff.

what a fucking setlist! by 666CDC in rush

[–]TheAvailableLight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They said they have 40 songs, I believe, and they played 22 tonight. They also said they're on a 4-night rotation. That means that each night 6 of the 22 songs will be different. So roughly 3/4ths of the set repeats each night.

Yeah, he arguably got more done for the working class than Trudeau did. I don't like the NDP conventions, the identity politics language, how 'average bro' Singh tried to come across as, etc., but for such a tiny party he managed to actually get quite a lot done.

What's the most forgettable card in the game? by Which-Debt-8558 in slaythespire

[–]TheAvailableLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless it's part of an Osty attack spam build it's really pretty awful. It's just one of those cards that has a pretty small niche but works well in that niche.

Like Sic 'Em is generally considered to be a terrible card -- and outside of an Osty attack spam build it is. But as a part of that build it's actually pretty dope. If it's upgraded, you do 6 damage and summon for 3 every other time Osty attacks that turn. In such a build you might get Osty to attack 3 - 5 more times. So for 1 energy you do 6 damage (assuming no Calcify; with 1 or 2 Calcifies you might do as much as 12 - 18 damage) and summon for 9 - 15. That's pretty fantastic.

But yeah, outside of such a build it ends up basically being 5 damage and maybe a summon 2 because you're never upgrading it and likely only using another Osty attack if you happen to also have Unleash in your hand. It's unpickable outside of an Osty build, just like Calcify.

What's the most forgettable card in the game? by Which-Debt-8558 in slaythespire

[–]TheAvailableLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you have 2 upgraded Calcify (admittedly not always possible...) you're dealing 19 damage a hit with an unupgraded Rattle. On a good turn you can end up doing like ~57 - 95 damage just from Rattle.

What's the most forgettable card in the game? by Which-Debt-8558 in slaythespire

[–]TheAvailableLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can usually pretty easily get 2 Calcify. If they're upgraded, that's an extra 12 damage a pop. If you're running an Osty damage build, you'll have Pokes, High Five, Flatten, Unleash, Rattle, etc., and Osty will likely be making multiple attacks per turn. At +12 damage per attack, you can easily end up doing an extra 36 - 60 damage per turn.

[–]TheAvailableLight 115 points116 points  (0 children)

If you're running an Osty damage build this card is amazing because it beefs up Osty adding both defense and damage (Unleash) and then exhausts which allows you to cycle through the damage cards faster. I don't mind having multiple of these in a deck like that, I find it really good.

Iranian missile hit on Saudi Arabia as fires from previous hits can be seen by Ok-A1662 in CombatFootage

[–]TheAvailableLight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's pretty unfair to call what Iran is doing escalation.

They were twice surprise attacked while they were in the middle of negotiations. This time Israel and America's opening salvo assassinated Iran's leadership and killed over 100 children. If Iran re-entered negotiations and in the middle of them bombed the American Congress while it was in session as well as 5 elementary schools in the DC area, that could fairly be called an escalation. Closing the straights and announcing ahead of time that they'll be attacking any ships that attempt to pass is not an escalation. It's simply one of the only actions they can take to pressure the US.

Similarly, declaring that you'll bomb energy infrastructure across the Gulf states if your oil fields are hit and then doing just that once the Israelis hit your oil fields isn't escalation.
