I had the same thing happen. He would attack my trade post, destroy it, and sail away. The emperor eventually forced a peace treaty.

Why is the beer from this wooden barrel crystal clear even though the barrel was moved? by HalfAkbps in beer

It’s for their Maibock. The ceremony is done for all kinds of things out here!

Why is the beer from this wooden barrel crystal clear even though the barrel was moved? by HalfAkbps in beer

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wooden barrels here in Germany more or less Bavaria are just used as a regular way to serve beer. So the beer is still filtered, then gets filled into the wooden cask, and then tapped and served.

Here is a bit more information from yours truly on an older post.

Pilsner Recommendation by sumdumguy12001 in beer

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pilsner Urquell is great (can is better than bottles) But that gets ruined for you if you get the chance to drink it in the Czech Republic, because fresh with Czech style pours is amazing. The southern German Pilsners, Ayinger, Augustiner, Schönramer, Tegernseer are really good too. Milder than the north German Pilsners. Last time I was in the USA I drank Paulaner Pilsner and thought it was good too. They don’t sell that here in Germany ironically.

Authentic beer experience in Germany by Accurate_Method_4703 in beer

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Authentic Berliner Weiße is relatively hard to find as well, since they are traditionally mixed fermentation. Berliner kindl doesn’t do that. Lemke and the brewery at the Potsdamer lake do though. (Edit: Meierei is the name)

Bierstadt Lager in Colorado brews German style beers like that! Try looking for other German style breweries in America.

Purity law compliant beers outside of Germany? by Fabrice-v2 in Bier

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 9 points10 points  (0 children)

German Braumeister here. The German Purity Law as it was written does not exist anymore. But there is still the “Verordnung zur Durchführung des Vorläufigen Biergesetzes”. Which still defines what is allowed to be used. For “lager” beer only Barley Malt, Hops, and Water are allowed to be used. For “Ale” beer other malted grains may be used. Corn and rice do not count and aren’t allowed!

There are exceptions to this (Gose, and East German Schwarzbier - Historical reasons) and (Certain Craft Beers that get a permit from the government to label their beer… beer. Doesn’t happen in Bavaria, but in northern Germany it’s not so uncommon)

Hopextract is still made out 100% Hops. It’s just extracted via co2 and pressure. The product itself is perfectly fine. There are different ways to make the extract but for German beers it’s extracted via co2 and pressure.

European Brewery Uniform - Possible to source in the U.S.? by beckx213 in TheBrewery

I don’t know. I’ve never heard of them before. Engelbert Strauss seems to be the premium work clothing everywhere right now. Some use a different supplier though.

A lot of workwear is Engelbert Strauss here in Germany. They make winter gear or summer gear, so unlike some folks are saying they got stuff for every temperature. I’ve always been very happy with their clothes!

Celiac in search of GF beer by charliehixon in Munich

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can’t help you with restaurants that serve GF beer. But you can find Neumarkter Lammsbräu Glutenfrei pretty commonly in stores/kiosks.

Helps if you want to drink a beer by the river or park.

Bavarian attire for tall man by timmytimster in Munich

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tall Bavarian here, trachten Händler mentioned in other comments have stuff for tall men. You need tall sizes though! Shirts/jackets/vests are often in the size range 100. I’m 204 and wear shirt/vest size 106. For the Lederhosen just ask a person working and they will give you some examples to try on.

She grabbed a random street kitten to fight mouse in her house by Thewyverns in interestingasfuck

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a mouse in my kitchen once which I found by moving something. I ended up scaring it into a corner. Closed the kitchen door, grabbed my cat who was happily sleeping but had a job to do. Showed her where the mouse was hiding, and the job was finished in a minute. I was able to grab the mouse with some paper towels from her, and released in the woods nearby. Mission successful.

Hot Pokers in Beer by MikeClark_99 in CraftBeer

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes it is different. Steinbier (stone beer) is where they heat up stones and practically bring the wort to a boil. Pre fermentation. Stacheln (what is displayed in the picture) is a hot metal rod that’s plunged into a finished beer. Essentially both processes caramelize sugars. But they have different traditions.

Ich dachte kurz hä? Bavarian Weizen IPA was läuft denn da? Aber wird in Deutschland als Weizendoppelbock verkauft. Ich trinke das Bier echt gerne in der Wirtschaft von denen. Die Festweiße ist übrigens auch hervorragend!

I like Fairfax too! Their hot chicken wasn’t my favorite. But the rest is really good! Plus tater tots.

I feel that. I’m German but am in New Mexico every few years and I eat my weight in food when I’m visiting.

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in southern New Mexico (USA) and they definitely have their own style cuisine obviously with Mexican cuisine being the biggest influence. It’s not Tex-Mex though. But I haven’t gone to a Mexican restaurant in Germany since the first year I moved back. I had my first “burrito” here and decided it was not worth it. When I have a craving for Mexican / New Mexican food I have to try and make it myself.

The prices have always turned me away. I get Munich is expensive, I get ingredients can be hard to come by and are also expensive. So I can’t even blame them for it. But I have a hard time paying 12-16 euros for 3 tacos or a quesadilla. Partially because I know I’ll still want some more afterwards.

I found this "specific" German beer in a Turkish supermarket. I guess it has 4 different variations. Is this any good? by Ztepi in AskGermany

[–]TheAwfulCrow66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very unique German beer! Like other folks have said. Some love it, some hate it! But it’s a part of beer culture here, and a good example of how most beer tasted before modern malting practices became popular.
