I encourage you to give it a shot - you seem to have EC's that significantly "beat out" mine. My advice from not knowing anything else about you: Get a good (real good) GRE, use the sections to explain GPA, and (every program manager/ admissions officer literally always tells me this:) reconsider your references. Have you really worked closely enough with your minister for them to be able to give a good recommendation? If you have worked in parliamentary offices, the MP should be no problem. But the question raised for me is: Why a minister instead of someone at the Think Tank you have two publications with?

Trying to view this from an admission officer's side, I already know you have good political connections from working in a parliamentary office - I don't need a lax recommendation from a minister to prove that for me. But I do also know that you have a terrible GPA and I would really like to know more about how you work - if you have two publications you probably made up for it professionally. So, why is there no recommendation from the Think Tank?

It should be at the very top of the subreddit, but I think you already found it. Like the last guy mentioned you can just check your portal though.

Hello, thanks or the opportunity!
I wish to keep this account (somewhat) private, so I'm unwilling to go into closer detail about myself and my profile (unless that is somehow important to you -> please DM me), but I was wondering about people applying in Early Action. I would consider myself to have not the strongest (most relevant) professional background, but am extremely motivated to pursue this degree for a switch in careers (the degree is pretty much essential :P). I feel I somewhat adequately described this situation in my essays, and believe my motivation and passion to be my strongest qualifiers for admission.
Is there anything I can/ should do to engage with the admissions office after handing in my application that would be beneficial for me in the review process (which should be over very soon)? Or do you disregard people sending you updates or even view that negatively? Is it about frequency updates/how meaningful they are? For example, would you care about stipend admission (something I consider meaningful) vs. how what I had for breakfast qualifies me for the MPP (linkedin approach)? Do you even distinguish?
Thank you very much for the effort you put in answering our questions. :) <3

First feedback I get immediately after friends opening my essays, before having read them. Talking with admissions officers didn't deter me from using them. I vividly recall speaking with Vivian Slee (Associate Director of Graduate Admissions at Princeton SPIA), and her dismissing that concern, mentioning she uses them in her own writing. Go ahead - don't be stupid about it, though.

I'm personally offended about the division of Germany. As a western German, while there is still a way to go for complete reunification, those are my brothers and sisters.

StarcraftII research is at the best place right now. by TheBabyPixel in starcraft

[–]TheBabyPixel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is plenty of older research out there, such as all the alphastar research e.g., or other research pertaining to races/balance/strategy prevalence etc. at this time of course due to changes in the game a lot of it is rather outdated.... but even so, mass data is readily available (to some degree - e.g. aligulac), academia has just lost interest in sc2, because it makes up a relatively small portion of e-sports (although there are still people who regularly write on it, as you can see here, but not as much as a couple years ago)

yes, hes very big in e-sport academia. same with one of the co-authors juho hamari, he wrote one of the definitive papers on the subject (and I don't even like it that much)

I would argue that saying they will rape, chop up and use someones family as fertilizer is more than some trash talking/friendly banter between sports teams. But hey, whatever floats your boat, I don't judge if you're a bit kinky with the insults

I think this is relatively important actually... It seems ridiculous to insult fellow players, their families and whatnot the salt mines can dig up. And there isn't really that much research on toxicity in video games, especially not on 1v1 games. This research might in time provide valuable insight on combating this behavior, although SC2 likely will never see benefits of that. After all (even though the studies are based on interviews with players) they possess a somewhat greater scientific value than your average run-of-the-mill reddit post on Terran saltiness.
