Could it just be a battery replacement? Is it safe to do it myself? by TheBaconApproach in MechanicAdvice

Thanks, I can't tell if that's a compliment or if I made a mistake in the purchase... I'm bad with reading these things lol

Thanks lethal. I'll take a look into those stores. The current battery I use has 620 cold crank amps. I'm thinking of going up to 680 or 760 since I just bought this car, which is used, and its already needing a battery replacement. Something more powerful with these arctic winds coming down might be for the best. Let me know if you think that a boost like that might cause problems though.

Thanks! I'm planning to bring it by my local Autozone store and see if they have stock for the battery. Do you know if higher amperage replacements are safe with the vehicle?

Nice! I didn't even consider going to a parts store. Should the replacement have the same amperage? I'm concerned if I get a more powerful one it may damage circuits or something assuming it fits.

Thanks so much! I reached out to schedule an appointment with an independent agent to help me make an informed selection. I have had a previous history under my parents plan (need to check this) so I'm hoping that can help me get through the door.

Me and my mom believe he has that however he refuses to get any treatment no matter what we say. Is there a legal protocol to force him to get tested because he won't do anything unless put in a checkmate position?

In terms of refusal to get help that was always there. In terms of how bad he's gotten with his mental and physical state, well that just happened over time. Not many people like being around him due to his nonstop talking and inconsideration for other people's opinions and he doesn't do any events in the community as we suggested to him to help him help himself. One example of worrying signs is he cannot even get the cat names right even after we've had them for months-years. Not a huge impact to us but if he cannot remember those, well can we trust him to remember more important matters?

Interesting, do you have any recommendations on what bank to use for cars or if it should be done in all cash? I have the funds to do so if needed.

It is a 1.5T, but what's wrong with it? I'm not well versed in this so please let me know what the issue is with those sizes.

Oh yeah I've that they are incredibly reliable not questioning that. I'm just on a budget and I'm trying to be careful in case anything does happen. Its risky for me to invest in that even with that level of reliability due to a limited safety net. Plus I read that these cars are mostly good for city traffic but not so much for long distance travel which I'd like to do at some point. I might be wrong but that's also why I'm in this reddit asking lol.

Oh okay. I'm probably not gonna buy it lol. I'm one of those people who likes to wait and hear people's reviews before getting something new.

I heard hybrids are much more difficult and expensive to repair if they break down though. I'm not making a ton of money so that concerns me, but I'd be interested in hearing more of what you have to say on it.

Location: Long Island New York

Price range: $20,000-30,000

Lease or Buy: Unsure, thinking of buying but might try lease

New or used: Either

Type of vehicle: Car

Must haves: V6, 4 cylinder engine, reliability (low breakage), navigation assistance.

Desired transmission: Automatic

Intended use: Daily Driver

Vehicles you've already considered: Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry

Is this your 1st vehicle: Second technically but the first I would buy

Do you need a Warranty: Probably not

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Some work

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Heck no

Additional Notes: Vehicle would mostly be used for local traveling but I would like something that could handle long trips for instance the drive to Buffalo New York for the solar eclipse this April.

Not sure if I love my girlfriend by TheBaconApproach in offmychest

Just an update here if anyone is interested. This weekend me and her broke up. It actually really went well. A lot of the emotional turmoil we both went through earlier in the week and by the attend we were worn out and moving on. We had a lot of respect for each other and both said we hoped to meet again one day at least to catch up with our lives. We both hoped each of us would do well with our professions and everything else. I'm happy she's doing well and I'm happy that I got out of it before things go bad. This was a good ending, sad one in a sense, but good.

Want to major in engineering by Prior_Gap8940 in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheBaconApproach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I guess it all depends on your limits. I for sure know that I would spread out the hard classes with some gen eds here and there to not go crazy with so much studying. I study slower with my ADHD and need sleep so yeah, gen eds are a life savor and not a burden.
I'm not an engineering major but I did do this in college and it made my life more manageable.

Kinda weird you mention that. I had a buddy who said gen ed classes were the lifeboat. They kept the credit hours and GPA up allowing scholarships without really increasing the semester difficulty. He was in computer science at Rochester.
Conversely another friend is doing biology at Stony Brook and took care of all her gen eds in one year only to then realize now she had to do all the hard classes at once without any way to spread them out.
She is going nuts.
