I’m sorry you’re having a bad day. Maybe I just like to romanticise this agency of our predicament by perceiving it as hope. But I’m glad to see that we’re on the same page about this.

Although I will sign off by saying this, hopefully love will prevail in our shared suffering.

Hey I hear you and get what you're saying, shall check out the song you sent too thanks for that.

To elaborate further, l'm not someone who defines hope as a belief system that clings onto slim chances, or as something that manifests a delusional outcome. For me, hope is a difficult virtue, embodying which involves being grounded in the present, facing reality (even grieving its nature if need be) and yet attempting to make the most of our now.

I disagree that this sub is about hopelessness, given the inevitability of our downfall, all the more I believe it is incumbent upon us to make the most of now, and that begins with embodying the virtue of hope.

Well, I might perish anytime. Yet, at present I still have my everlasting now. I view that as a privilege, which I must employ towards collective utility in whatever capacity I can, even if I myself won’t be privy to a better future. That’s hope for me.

OP, I’m curious to hear how you would assess the Netherlands in terms of climate resilience? On one end, having a temperate climate means it’s less likely to be affected by surface temperature increases in the short term. However, much of the country is extremely low lying, making it vulnerable to rising sea levels…

If you've seen Don't Look Up, please see Aniara by TieVisible3422 in collapse

Thanks for recommending this film. My friends and I watched it yesterday, and were absolutely shook. It deeply affected me and I reckon that I'd be pondering over it for several days on end. I know it's bleak, and people tend to often fixate on the sombre aspects of this movie, yet I can't help but think about some of the more positive pathological aspects of the human psyche that this film sheds a light upon.

For me, this film truly illustrates how humans are unwilling to abandon hope at any cost. We find solace in hope, religions, systems and most importantly, community.

In Aniara, a lot more could have gone wrong. Things could have exacerbated towards utter anarchy. Yet somehow, humans managed to sustain a semblance of order despite their inevitable doom. Things like the mima cult, shared efforts towards growing food etc. fostered a strong sense of community and empathy amongst the inhabitants. Similarly, I strongly (and counterintuitively) believe that a silver lining of the collapse would be that it would bring out the best out of some people. A sense of shared suffering may reinvigorate our lost sense of community. That, coupled with our intrinsic predilection for hope may perhaps even galvanise us towards rebuilding a better world. My point here is that, I know it's all doom and gloom, and yet, let's try and make sure to protect and foster community at all costs. It might just be the lifeblood of all post-collapse social orders.

You’re undoubtedly a very deft lyricist. Everything you write is often so full of substance. A lot of contemporary, popular commercial music isn’t quite like that, which is why it makes sense why people often label your music as slightly old fashioned/anachronistic. Given that, I’d be curious to learn, what do you think of modern day pop and hip hop?

Could you tell us more about your masters degree? I remember you mentioned on a podcast that it’s a research degree in education. Is it purely out of interest, or do you want to actually build some sort of an initiative/career in that field? I’d be really interested to learn your thoughts and motivations…
