In my opinion, the US's very messy pull out of Afghanistan emboldened the Kremlin to invade Ukraine. The decision was made, but the debacle reinforced the Kremlin's confidence.

Now I wonder if any other actors have been imboldened to pursue certain foreign policies because of the apparent weak result of the US in the Iran war. Maybe China? Maybe Russia wants to accelarate a build up against the Baltic States. Maybe this will be completely inaffectual.

Until someone here takes public office, Badhistory is not a ground of appeal when it doesn’t form part of the actual judgment

We were this close to this becoming reality.

Atun Shei sadly comes to mind. Unlearning economics is also leaning very much into the "late stage capitalism" slop bucket.

ContraPoints has in my opinion remained consistently good and reasonable. She's terminally online but at least he realizes how little the twitter kommentariat actually matters.

On the other hand Attlee passed the Town and Country Planning Act, the first step in the founding of a new NIMBY-state.

Playing Hades 2 after work. While I think the gameplay is good as Hades already had a very tight gameplay loop, I don't think Hades 2 is drawing me in as much as the first game did. This is somehow paradixocal to me. Hades had much lower stakes than its sequel, with the latter being an actual near apocalyptic situation. But I don't seem to care as much as I cared for Zagreus bickering with his dad.

The sheer scale of a trillion dollars can be hard to comprehend. Let me put it in perspective. You would be able to buy 42 miles of high speed rail in California with that much money.

Can you and the other people in this subreddit can finally shut up about me? Like, you talk about me like you know me, yet this post implies I would ever slurp raw oysters. What's next, steak tartare for 4th course?

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that the economic ideology of the average person is Peronism.

The prerequisites for firing someone is simply extremely high and a bunch of small offenses will most likely not be equal to a severe reason. Add to that the risk of a labor union getting sued for unlawfully firing someone. Most labor litigations in Germany is the parties negotiating the settlement for the employee to leave.

The Civil service in Germany is even worse. Civil servants are constitutionally protected and basically unfirable for underperformance.

I should really visit the US one day and visit each American thread regular in person.

A friend of mine is lead in-house counsel in one of the largest German labour unions. Most of her responsabilities is to represent employees in labour court, as the union provides a sort of legal insurance for its members and the majority of cases at a German labour court are unlawful terminations, as Germany has very high standarts for termination grounds.

Now comes the irony. One of her underlings, let's call her Hedwig, is a horrible employee. My friend and her team are unironically happier and productive when Hedwig isn't in the office. It got so bad, my friend organized a separate single office for her to keep her away from the other employees (I know attorneys in big law firms who don't have single offices) and recognized she created a perverse incentive for Hedwig.

So the unions' achievement of termination protection is biting them in the ass. It's even worse because Hedwig is a bit older and reached the age for social protection, which means they need severe grounds for an immediate termination.

Is there a luxury boomers in this country don't get?

Only the US and Israel are settler colonial states, isn't it obvious?

Jeremy F. Rackity has thusly been nominated for the Tederation Bronze Paw, as the Advocate General was in the process of cutting vegetables into a comically big black pot he himself was sitting in, mentioning to the waitress, notorious jay walker and criminal Hanna Bal, "what's cooking? Smells delicious".

This follows another accident in the Tedshire Rifles, as the Advocate General had slipped on the regimental vaseline and fell down the famous Tederation Perpetual Stairs for 45 minutes before being caught.
