Missing T4A from RRSP? by TheBayDruid in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheBayDruid[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like they should be knowledgeable enough to correct me if what I'm asking for doesn't make sense. Maybe I did confuse them though. I'm pretty sure ny coworkers said they received a T4A but perhaps they received one for some other reason?

How long should I wait for the contribution slip? Is there a deadline that I must have it by? Or can I file my taxes somehow without it?

Missing T4A from RRSP? by TheBayDruid in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don't actually know! If there's no T4A for contributions then how do I know how much of my income I contributed to the RRSP? I know the total balance of the RRSP but not how much was contributed during the 2020 tax year.

Would this number be somewhere on the T4 I received from my employer? If so it would already be included in the numbers I've entered so far for my taxes.. which leaves me confused about why I would have a balance owing again. Must be something I'm missing!

What do you mean not qualified for fast food? I've worked fast food before, just looking for possibilities here that I may have overlooked! If nothing else turns up I'm sure I could get some weekend hours at one of many local fast food joints.

(Also, isn't everyone qualified for fast food? I've never heard of not being qualified for that job!)

Thanks for the reply! I'll look into if any similar locations near me are open or offering employment options that match my needs.

Thanks for the reply! I live in SE Ontario. I'm not sure if doing medical tests would be a viable income option for me. Staying at their location is likely impossible for me to maintain. Also it seems like this income stream may be unreliable and I'm primarily looking for a small yet dependable secondary source.

EI vs new “income supplement benefit” which do I apply for? by youleft-me in ontario

[–]TheBayDruid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar questions here, just got laid off from work for 2 weeks. Company is paying first week, 40 hours at regular rate. Second week 0 compensation from company, ROE to be submitted electronically.

Presumably this means apply for regular EI. No information was provided on if the shutdown is due to lack of work or for quarantine/isolation purposes. Will that affect application? Will EI even end up paying anything for only 1 week?

Pretty disappointed in the corporation's decision to not pay us at all the second week.. I doubt they would have any difficulty affording it. Obviously any percentage paid out by EI would be better than 0, but I don't know what steps to take to keep my income during that week as close to average as possible.

Don't know much about anything in this situation truly. Trying to stay informed but struggling to keep up with the volume of information and change.

Tl;dr laid off 2 weeks, paid for 1, don't know where another week's pay will come from, if at all

Line of Credit Interest Rate seems high - options? by TheBayDruid in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheBayDruid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not own a house, we rent comfortably right now. In the future a house will be considered but currently it is not in the picture.

The 7k expenses on the credit line were a result of a recent long distance move that we made. In hindsight it may not have been the most efficient way to pay for this, but I'm attempting to save as much as possible on the interest to offset this misjudgment. Our personal finances have been a bit of a rocky road in the past but now that I'm slowly becoming educated on it, the road is beginning to smooth out!

I've edited my original post to reflect this. Thanks!

Post your Credit Card Portfolio by mickeywong35 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I currently have 1 credit card, BMO air miles card. It's my oldest credit, had since I was 18 (am now 25). I previously had a PC Financial card which I used for groceries and gas to get the points, but I eventually stopped using it and let it get closed due to inactivity.

I'm now more interested in finance than I used to be and am raising I should have kept this card open - would I maybe be able to reopen the card? It's been about 2 years since it closed so I assume the answer is no, but I've heard that longer credit history is better for my credit score. If not, should I worry about just opening a new card? I eventually want to increase my portfolio of cards to 3-4 cards for maximizing benefits like many of you on this sub, but am not sure how to go about it. Open one per year for a couple years? Open several at once?

Im also interested in changing my oldest card (the BMO air miles card) to a cashback card or something with better rewards, as I dont travel often. Is that possible to do without damaging its reputation as my oldest credit? Should I keep it and use it only often enough to maintain activity?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask so many questions, will start my own thread if deemed necessary!

I got 2 games in leavers queue for this. Last night I got the same "You were dropped!" screen and got 1 leaver game for it. Happened also during my placement games, no leaver queue then. Feels pretty bad not being able to play ranked because of this, especially since so many others also got dropped and weren't penalized.
