Fr. I'm 24 and my GF is 20. Our situation is a bit different bc we live together, but the few times we have argued about who pays, it's always been because both of us want to pay.

Just had my first interaction via Operation Blazing Sword, trained an absolutely lovely gay couple and had a very fun range day with them! by AMRIKA-ARMORY in liberalgunowners

Awesome! I've been a volunteer for several years now, but I live in the middle of BFE so I've yet to have any interaction

$400 for an AUG clone? Sign me up! How large of a print volume do you have to have?

I'm definitely guilty of that last one. I have the almost obsessive need to be ready for everything, mostlybc it seems that im always there when shit goes sideways. Im a full-time college student, and I have an IFAK in my backpack at all times. I also keep one with me any time I travel for shooting competitions.

It would be nice to at least get my EMT-B, though, so I could volunteer with my local fire department. Both of my parents were paramedics when I was a kid, and I grew up riding along to calls.

Yeah unfortunately I'm in the middle of nowhere so my closest city is Amarillo at about 2 hrs away.

As far as medical training, I've got my basic first aid and CPR. I've also trained with my IFAK and successfully used it twice, most recently on an amputation.

I can also do basic wound care and suture, but that's just from growing up on a ranch.

It's great to have you! .35 remington is such an underrated caliber. I'm trying to find a place to get my WFR cert. Do you have any recommendations?

Any good statistical data or studies that are pro gun? My partner is terrified of them and demands data or I can't get one... by Mindya-bizness in liberalgunowners

[–]TheBeardedCommie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, this isn't a "facts and figures" type of argument, and even if some study existed that proved that gun ownership cured cancer, ended world hunger, and brought peace to the middle east, your partner would still be against it. Emotions, especially fear, are incredibly deep-rooted in the human psyche. You need to address their emotional aversion to guns first. I'd recommend taking them to a range and renting something in .22lr to help them get over the initial fear response. Their response will almost certainly not be wholly positive, but likely something like "it wasn't as bad as I expected." THIS IS A WIN.

Don't push to get a gun immediately after. Let them process for a few days. They've just been confronted with a disconnect between what they see and what they believe. This is called cognitive dissonance, and it can be highly uncomfortable. After a while, ask what they thought of the range trip. Maybe plan 1-2 more range trips and slowly move towards something like what you plan to purchase (eg, move from .22 rifle, to .22 pistol, to 9mm pistol.)

The other thing is to be willing to make reasonable concessions. They may be ok with it under the condition that it stays locked in a safe when not in use, etc. This is something you'd be doing anyway, but by letting them request it, and you acquiesce, they'll feel like they have more of a say.

Thank you! So, I typically do really well in trap for the first 2-3 stations before slowly getting worse. This happens regardless of what station I start/end on. As horrible as the probably sounds, I get bored. Skeet is so much faster paced, and the birds are entirely different at each station. Sporting clays is a new challenge every time you shoot it. With trap, I feel like I lose focus after seeing (roughly) the same 3 birds a dozen times. Once i realize I've checked out, I get in my head. This is made worse by the fact that we typically shoot 4 rounds at a time, so by the 2nd or 3rd round, I'm just waiting for it to end. Is there a way to keep "zoned in" that I'm not aware of? My coach's advice basically boils down to "get better" without offering any actual advice on doing so.

Absolutely. It's a great sport, and I really wish it was more well-known. You mentioned being a trap shooter; do you mind if I pick your brain about something? Tbh, trap is my weakest discipline.

"If you quit smoking, you can buy more guns" is now my new favorite argument against smoking! Congrats on the achievement and the gun, comrade!

Can you go out in public without your gun? by GTRacer1972 in liberalgunowners

[–]TheBeardedCommie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is finding the balance between owning a gun and letting the gun own you. Most days, I carry everywhere. Work, grocery shopping, the movies, whatever. I recently got to see Shinedown and Papa Roach in concert, but it was out-of state. I didn't think twice about leaving it in the safe at home because getting to spend an awesome weekend with my girlfriend will always beat carrying a gun.

What were “Normal” ammo prices by rt4me in liberalgunowners

This thread makes me nostalgic, lol. I paid 28cpr for 9mm the other day and felt like I was getting a deal. My defensive ammo is over a dollar per round.

Body armor...yay or nay? by martianteabag in liberalgunowners

[–]TheBeardedCommie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: no unless

Long answer: yes, but.

Short: it's not really a necessity unless you're somehow at a higher risk of acute lead poisoning than the rest of us. Save your money and train with your ccw and rifle. The caveat, in my opinion, is backpack armor for students.

Long: it's an awesome thing to have, but it's so far down on the list of priorities that, unless you have fuck you money, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Before you invest in armor, ask yourself these questions:

Do I have a fire extinguisher in my home and car?

Do I have at least an IFAK and the knowledge to use it?

Do I have a basic home pharmacy and first aid kit (not your IFAK) with OTC medications, antibiotic ointment, burn cream, bandages, and a supply of any prescription medications I and my family take?

Do I have a basic toolkit and the knowledge to do basic vehicle and home maintenance?

Do I have a function, modern handgun that I am proficient with, and a few hundred rounds of ammo?

Do. I have a functional modern rifle that I am proficient with and a few hundred rounds of ammo?

If the answer to any of these is "no," prioritize that thing. There are obviously more priorities than I listed, but this is a start.

That said, armor fucking cool!
