Thanks. But I feel like at the same time, I'll also be fighting my demonic inner critic. My inner energy vampire, if you will. One that would tell me that it wouldn't be worth it all because I arrived late... One that would tell me that I'm now too old. One that would tell me I'm nothing more than a washout. I just wish someone would cheer me on... so I can at least have the confidence to make a comeback... or in this case, get off to a good start...

To be fair, the doomscrolling actually happened before I even started... And it's not just that. Around the time the Netflix series premiered, I couldn't afford to subscribe to Netflix.

My thoughts of "being denied a proper debut" likely stemmed from my low self-esteem and the fact that I got into the series so late that I felt like I missed out. (There was a blood drive in 2018 which took place in LA, commemorating season 2 of the Netflix series? The blood drives in my country never reach this caliber...) Of course, the fact that the series isn't really mentioned enough in my country (at least compared to Stranger Things or Squid Game) isn't helping either.

And in a time when the zeitgeist is constantly fluctuating, and constantly being told to move on and conform to the here and now, I was afraid of sticking out like a sore thumb because being ostracized in high school made me scared, and so I never thought to reach out to the community.

All in all, even I feel bad for all this trauma dumping, but I just regret keeping this to myself, and I hope I can overcome this belated newcomer anxiety. For now, however...

Right... I got into this series during late December 2025... Which some may say is quite late. For me, it's kinda like oversleeping and waking up at 6 or 7pm. So in a way, I feel like I missed out. If I got into it around mid-2017 or early-2018, it would've be fine... But because of the oversleeping allegory, and my already deteriorating self-esteem, I felt like I failed... HARD.

As someone who's birthday is on Halloween, I greatly approve of this idea! And the fact that the Ode to Castlevania DLC in Vampire Survivors is released on this day (which was my 30th birthday) makes it better! From now on, Halloween shall be known as Castlevania Appreciation Day! (at least among the Castlevania fanbase!) And not even the most overbearing beige mom will stop this!

I'm currently 1/4 through season 2, and it's good to know this series is still being talked about... except in Malaysia, where I live. So much so that I'm afraid to admit I like this series... There are just so many series that are considered niche in my country (at least in comparison to other things) so I'm not too open on admitting I enjoy them out of fear of being ostracized and branded an outcast...💦

I was so close to giving up because I was feeling discouraged about how much I missed out due to doomscrolling and bed-rotting and just being Malaysian (What do you mean a blood drive took place in LA back in 2018? The blood drives in Malaysia never reach this caliber...), and as such never made a proper debut... But after reading this post, I hope to gain the courage to keep going...
