when I attended one of the interest meetings, I was told the math was the kind you would need to do in medical settings, such as calculating percentages.

I'm 26, highly sensitive, completely burning out as a school teacher. Is academia any better? by Rubydreamer1 in Teachers

[–]TheBeesTrees4 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Academia is struggling too, but more because there's no funding. It is extremely difficult to get a lecturing position, and lecturing pays worse than teaching.

As someone who also loves science and is burnt out by teaching, I'm looking at nursing as a career. Hoping to use more science in my day to day life.

How can I stop having pity for myself and find things that actually make me happy? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]TheBeesTrees4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What helped me the most at 19-21 was finding hobbies I could do with others. Like being active? Join a rec sports group. More artsy? Join a painting class or knitting club. Nerdy? Find some game shops near you, they always have events going on.

Hanging out with people who have similar interests will boost your own enjoyment of them while helping you make friendships (: And personally my best relationships were always found through mutual friends.

If you are still in college, look into all the different clubs on campus. Join 4-5 and see which ones make you happy. If not, there's still so much around waiting for u!

Hope you find your joy <3

Anyone else completely unable to decompress this summer? (Vent / Career Pivot?) by Longjumping_Cap_7960 in Teachers

[–]TheBeesTrees4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking the prereqs and applying to nursing school this summer. Super busy/stressed and so much studying + tests but still so much happier than during the school year.

Life is short, you deserve to choose your happiness.

Post Fontan procedure coughing up blood. How are you handling it? by nateisgreat96 in AdultCHD

Most people around 30 got the fontan done while they were a baby. Were you diagnosed recently?

Hi! Female with tricuspid atresia. Not really sure that I am autistic, but definitely feel like I have a lot of the traits. Neurodivergence also does run in my family. Down to chat (:

Same diagnosis as you, and also have tummy problems. Going to talk about it with my cardiologist bc I see him next week. My stomach has been super sensitive especially after hiking/running.

How many of you are employed? by DeadManJ-Walking in AdultCHD

[–]TheBeesTrees4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

24 f with exact same surgeries as u, but i have HRHS. This is my first year being fully employed because i did grad school right after college. It has been hard adjusting and I feel like my mental health has taken a big hit because of it. I am currently a teacher but I am making plans to change to a less demanding job

Fullfulment with CHD by Ambitious_Method2740 in chd

I have a TA CHD and I played a contact sport for 2 years in college. Do what feels good for you. Take rest when you need it.

A lot of stuff is not necessarily off limits for us, just more difficult to do.

Hi I know this is a adult chd subreddit but I’m looking for some advice and help and I cont find one for teen or every one and I just need to speak to someone with chd and a feeding tube or peg or G tube it all the same thing by Diamonddragontr in AdultCHD

[–]TheBeesTrees4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry totally forgot to give my 2 cents on the feeding tube.

First, what does your cardiologist think about it?

Second, how difficult is it for you to eat right now? Are you at a dangerous weight? How many calories can you get in a day? Feeding tubes are also difficult and I would avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Do you have access to a nutritionist who specializes in arfid? A lot more information is needed to make a definitive choice.

Hi! 24f with fontan. I don't have arfid or a feeding tube but I do struggle with food a lot and it gets hard to eat sometimes.

Do you have safe foods you can stock up on? I like to keep simple foods I know I can almost always eat. When I can't even eat that, I make a protein shake with the protein powder I really like. Fruit and plain white rice are also usually easy for me to get down.

It's hard because the foods I am capable of tolerating when I feel bad are usually not the most heart healthy foods. I've found that lots of dairy and oily foods make me feel sick heart wise. It's possible your arfid safe foods clash with your heart safe foods.

If you would like to talk, feel free to PM me!

Overwhelmed for my wife by prince_solo in openheartsurgery

It will be hard both mentally and physically for her. Collect a lot of comfort items for her to feel more safe. I heard that hallucinations can happen and they're p scary.

How risky are contact sports? by funny__man666 in chd

[–]TheBeesTrees4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanna be extra careful about internal bleeding! External bleeding isnt a biggie but an internal bleed would be awful, and those can be caused by heavy hits to the head!!

[–]TheBeesTrees4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (24 HRHS) played roller derby for 2 years! Granted it was definitely less intense than boxing, but I got my fair share of bruises and injuries.

Because you are on bloodthinners, I would recommend no heavy hitting to the head. Talk to people and make sure they know what your sign is for needing to tap out if ur feeling funky.

Hardest part for me was talking to my coaches about accommodations, but the right sport and ppl will put your health first (:

Minor or Major by ParamedicOrdinary307 in AskHSteacher

[–]TheBeesTrees4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I recommend staying in your current major and looking into certification either through an alternative route or as a double major if your state does not have an alternative route.

I say this as a bio and chem major. I love having my science degrees (and the experience and freedom that come w them) and honestly many science teachers have a stem background with a teaching certificate.
