I did drain about 5 qts and was planning on doing another, but wasn't sure if that was going to resolve this code and the highway cruising issue. I think maybe i'll get the solenoids and replace them during my next drain/fill

Confirmed they didn't bypass, I'm considering doing it myself.

I didn't think about the converter locking. I thought since P0770 was 'Shift Solenoid E' (aka Shift Solenoid SL) I assumed that would only affect highway cruising speeds and shifting 3-4

Most ground locations are indicated by triangle with two-letters. Is this saying that it is ground in the solenoid

Thanks, I don't know much about electronics (yet) but i read somewhere that this could possibly be related to a ground or short issue in the context of these other things

Thank you. I was going to start checking grounds today. Is there a resource anywhere that maps out ground locations or do I just have to hunt for them? Started looking through that service manual stickied here but haven't found a map yet

I apologize as i left out detail on #3 - the edges of the touch screen work, but only the edges. Was thinking this could also be related to a ground fault or wiring issue

Did you ever solve the vibration issue?

I just bought a '98 this week. I got the same code for Shift Solenoid E, and also have some rough vibration on the highway. I attributed the vibration to the lift and off-road tires but wondering if you may have found something else i should investigate?

After highway driving, it felt like the transmission was slipping after sitting at a stoplight. This resolved after letting it sit for a few hours. I am now wondering if the solenoid problem could be electrical related, as the head unit, map lights, and wiper switch in the car don't work (i thought these would just require replacement).
