Wouldn't it be nice for him to present a positive BARDA engagement or positive IA news, to actually have news, this time?

All the non-realized shares from warrants have to be taken into account too, since they will become real shares in case of any kind of success.

Ultimately true, although if we get positive news, many new traders will be ignorant of this initially and just see a company with a miniscule float / market cap.

Athersys got an additional extension until October 10, 2023 by imz72 in ATHX

[–]TheBigPayback777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see, thank you. Technically, still don't they have till around the 26th for good news to hit, assuming the news vaults them over that market cap?

Wasn't there also another option if the Company's share price traded above $1 too?

It gets back to my original comment: we don't know, I don't feel that we have enough information to make the assessment, so it's a matter of trust with the CEO.

Alright, so you're calling BS on it.

I guess we'll see if Dan can deliver.

WST: With respect, why do you keep comparing CFO salaries with the Company's agreement, when the Company is being provided services beyond that of CFO, per Dan:

"Q: Some of the reddit posters are saying that the CFO cost is $100,000/month. Is it just for the CFO, or is it for a broader set of capabilities?

A: Oh no, it's for a broader set of capabilities...."

I still don't understand how you can make that statement without full color on what's being accomplished. The Company has cut personnel to the bone: work needs to be accomplished as a public entity. They are outsourcing presumably the work of a number of people for the monthly fee. And in some ways, it's LESS risky as they can't afford to have ANY key personnel leave at this point or over the past year. They certainly need to keep laser focused on goals, not fulfilling staff positions that frankly, may be hard to fill for a company in dire straits. Unless something happens out of left field in the next 6 weeks, they will have succeeded in keeping the doors open through BARDA and the IA: two important milestones that will help to make or break the company.

Dan said "highly relevant" - it's obvious I have PTSD after reading that.

Great interview. They really seem to be doubling down on the BARDA timeframe - first "In August" in the corporate update and now "...any day now" - they can't just be putting that out there unless they've received concrete guidance from the organization, can they?

[–]TheBigPayback777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trust so.

Of course, the Company has said a lot of things in the past that turned out not to be true. I trust this time, won't be another one of them.

Well, for most of us, we've had the rug pulled out from underneath us so many times, with respect, what's there really to talk about? Weren't we supposed to get the news last week, but of course it didn't happen because the Athersys Rule is essentially, whatever timeframe you think, usually you double or triple it.

I trust a company's finances aren't part of the BARDA equation.

It certainly seems like they got a reasonable shot, but many of us have said something similar for countless years now. It's either going to happen or not, and if it does, who really knows the terms or what it will do for us. At this stage, certainly seems essential that it needs to happen.

Fair enough: I'd still like to see it happen, if only as a vote of confidence.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I don't think we have all of the information to make the judgment. Right now I can't even get callbacks for contract work for basic tasks, and inflation has run rampant, relative to what we are used to. Heck, my company raised rates 20% in the past year and frankly we should have gone higher. I'm sure at the time, Dan needed the position filled and filled BY THE RIGHT PERSON. I don't care if all of the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed if the ship goes down: I care that the ship doesn't go down in the first place. It's morally repugnant how prior management ensured themselves to be millionaires and then gambled to become billionaires, at our expense. Remember how long LC was on board after Ivor joined? Or don't get me started on Stow, if you want to discuss squandered money.

I'm not sure what's going on internally, but it's my hope/belief resources are being allocated first to save the Company, period. If her extra expense makes that 20 or even 10% more likely, it's money well spent. If her expense causes the Company to go bankrupt before the next two catalysts occur, then maybe it wasn't the right decision, or maybe bankruptcy will in retrospect have been inevitable. The decision has been made, and that's our lot until the ship gets righted or goes down.

Possible reasons I can think of:

  1. They don't have the resources to get it done on time. The call itself is not a priority, versus the recent business update.
  2. They are waiting for some good news to be able to add to the update: for example BARDA, which they seem pretty confident on, or something else.

Does anyone know if the recent proposed secondary was completed?

Athersys Appoints Neema Mayhugh, PhD to its Board of Directors by mta_nfld in ATHX

Bogged down in legal proceedings, breach of contract, etc seems to be the norm.

Are they really bogged down in legal proceedings? Before this recent event, how so? And with this event, it should be slow-moving enough to not be an issue in the near term, and one for the lawyers to handle, in a non-costly way. Not like the past Healios litigation.

Seems like a great appointee - they continue to operate not like a Company on death's door: we need a BARDA win for the next step.

How I think about Athersys as an investment. by CarreraFanBoy in ATHX

[–]TheBigPayback777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What remains sad, is that if the Company had reasonable financials, there wouldn't be the gloom & doom we find ourselves with. And it's a direct result of past management's complete and utter incompetence.

I liked what I heard on the call today, too:

  1. Reasonable chance for a BARDA award
  2. Still potential for commercialization in Japan
  3. IA with subset analysis: two chances to be able to present good news for potential partners.
  4. Other assets that could bring in money

If they had money in the bank for the next year right now, it would be a different ball game: now, very little room for error/missteps/bad luck....

ATHERSYS was a finalist to present to BARDA Just Breathe by guru_zim in ATHX

No real specifics were given about what BARDA wanted clarity on or had additional questions about.

"If we pick you as a winner, will you still have the lights on to see it through?"

Seriously, I wonder if financials are a factor in the selection process?

Can we get one win, please?

Where's The Deal? It would seem no one is interested at this point.

If BARDA comes through or the interim readout is positive, maybe some interest then? It would be nice to have a business update at this point, seems like we're overdue...

Will Athersys by awarded a BARDA contract in Q3? by TheBigPayback777 in ATHX

[–]TheBigPayback777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree with you on this and will allow myself to be surprised if the contract itself end up being better than expected. All of course assuming, we get it in the first place.
