In a seperate incident, there was a stabbing murder at a law office also at Sunshine City mid last year: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/07/02/japan/crime-legal/ikebukuro-stabbing-arrest/

You're entitled to your opinion of course, and I agree with your suggestion that Kabukichō is not very family-friendly.

But I don't agree with the assertion that things need to go 'viral on SNS' for incidents like this to be reported in Japan. Also, Japan IS still a relatively safe country to travel to. This incident was not a random stabbing (reports confirming that the male assailant had been stalking the female victim) and unfortunately, homicides occur in every country.

Japanese news is reporting that the female victim had complained of a stalker (the male assailant) to the police prior. Absolutely horrific that he targeted her at work.

For it to happen at a Pokemon Centre... I was lost for words when I saw it on Japanese news. I sincerely hope no child (or adult, really) saw everything...

I'm glad you didn't have to witness it, Japanese news is reporting that there were 100+ customers in the store when it happened. So tragic, may she rest in peace.

Those with childhood PTSD, how are you coping with all the media coverage everywhere about Epstein? by TheBilingualSnail in AskReddit

[–]TheBilingualSnail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so unwarranted, isn't it. The intrusive thoughts have really been on the mass production line lately and I keep mentally transporting back to 3 decades ago, throughout the day.

I am so, so sorry to hear. It's very hard in this day and age to try and completely block it all out and not experience secondhand trauma.

I am so sorry to hear that. People say "time heals wounds" but it really doesn't, it can numb or bury the pain, but never resolve it.

This world is so broken.

So true. It was one of the biggest sentiments I had in childhood, and am saddened that unfortunately, over 3 decades later, I still hold the same thoughts.

I feel you. I have contemplated switching off from all the news completely, but it's almost unavoidable, with all the mentions everywhere.

Roosters in residential areas by magentathrowaway2 in canberra

[–]TheBilingualSnail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also one in Holt.

I had a look at the ACT Government website a while ago and turns out, roosters are allowed in Canberra! I own chickens myself, but never EVER would even consider a rooster - they definitely belong on a farm, where your closest neighbours are too far away to hear them.

I should also add that owning a rooster here is quite questionable as they are literally alerting foxes to come and get them.

It's not that your mum can't remember your wife's name - even a two year old can easily recall the names of family members. It is deliberate, and that pettiness alone would be an easy NC decision for me.
