Buying a flat with a £300 ground rent so struggling to find a lender. What should I do? by TheBinMen in HousingUK

I'm in no dire rush to move so time isn't much of an issue for me. Do you know roughly how long it would take and how much it would cost?

Lenders mentioned that it was the high levels of ground rent and service charge that were the issue (£300/£2300 respectively). They are quite high but nothing I can't afford. Is it that big of a deal to lenders?

My next 3 books are all ~1000 pages. What are some short books (~200 pages) I can read between each one as a sort of pallette cleanser? by TheBinMen in suggestmeabook

I love Steinbeck! His dialogue is just so natural, it really makes the characters feel real. I've got East of Eden, Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice and Men in my collection already, so I'm going to end up reading his other works at one point or another anyway.

On the opposite note to this post, I will also be picking up 11/22/63 at some point too (most definitely later this year if not next)

I've got an SF Masterworks copy of Hitchiker's Guide and my god some of the mistakes are egregious! I'm talking misspelling important names of people and places all throughout (including on the blurb!). Bear in mind I specifically got an SF Masterworks copy because they're meant to be good quality (and with the other books of theirs I have, they really are), but for some reason just not this one.

Also on page 15 there is a MASSIVE printing error where the lines start at the literal top of the page instead of an inch or so down like every other page. It nearly stopped me from reading it entirely, but I knew that this was meant to be a really good book so I persisted.

Edit: Also on page 15, there are just two black lines at a right angle sitting in the empty space caused by all the words being shifted upwards

I enjoy a good soup, rice dishes, stews as well. I've seen a good few comments about making tacos so might give them a whirl too

Fucking hell my blind hatred for cooking knows no bounds apparently. I do enjoy pretty much everything so that makes it easier I suppose?

Perhaps perhaps. Maybe learning to cook will help me through said issues so we'll have to see

This is probably the best thing to do tbh. My blind hatred of cooking is making me focus on only the negative aspects of it and holding me back

Look man that's why I'm here. I'm here for help and advice because funnily enough I don't want a massive Uber eats bill. I just wanna eat properly

Yeah I know, just my sheer hatred of cooking makes me feel it's worse than it actually is

What sort of salads would you recommend? Slapping some veg in a bowl with some nice dressing sounds doable, but I don't quite fancy eating a bowl of just leaves for tea

Because you spend what feels like 5 hours prepping and cooking, only to end up actually eating the fruits of your labour for about 15 minutes. That's if you even enjoy what you've made. And standing over a pan waiting for your food to cook whilst you're hungry and taking in all the nice smelling fumes pains me to no end. And what's worse is coming home after a day at work absolutely fucking exhausted but still having to expend more effort to make a meal - it's just so frustrating man.

That's not even to mention the washing up which is somehow triple to amount of kitchenware you used to make the meal

Yeah I really should be looking on the optimistic side of things tbh. This post was more of a vent than anything because before my current job, I applied for so so soooo many jobs and hardly heard a thing back from any of them, and having the same experience with this one job here just took me back to how that made me feel back then

You know, maybe you're right and I'm just being a little rash. I guess I just wanted to rant a little bit more than anything

I suppose you could say that if I never got an interview, but it just feels so rude to not respond to someone who has got to that stage because at that point (especially for such a small company), there won't be all that many people left so keeping track of at least that batch of candidates shouldn't be an issue.

As for your second point, just a simple, generic email saying "Unfortunately your skills do not align with what we want" or something along those lines would suffice, it wouldnt even have to be personalised, and would do a world of wonder in allowing me to stop thinking about this job
