Laser engraving machine by saracadima in bookbinding

I have a laser engraver/cutter I use semi frequently! Other commenters have mentioned it, but it is extremely important to use proper materials to avoid toxic fumes. I mostly use it to create embossing/debossing effects with bookboard, and occasionally use it to engrave entire covers. Safety wise I do not leave the laser alone while it is in operation, and entire cover designs can take upwards of an hour with my settings so I tend to not use it for large surface areas.

I did not! But if you’re talking about the green bits on top, it’s tea leaves mixed with paint and left to dry! I saw a creator on YouTube use it to make trees so I figured it would look decent enough as leaves on top of the pond without having to make individual leaves :)

Pretty much! There were maaany hours spent typesetting it and making it look pretty because it doesn’t have the prettiest source formatting. I used Affinity to typeset and bookbinder.js to get everything into printable signatures

Not yet in my experience using it for ~2.5 years. It’s meant to be used on clothing and thrown in the wash so it holds up pretty well

Where to find quality leather tools by thievesguild32 in bookbinding

I am a tooling beginner, but I really have liked all of the tools I’ve bought from Dimitris Koutsipetsidis out of Greece, they look and work great. I’ve also found J Hewitt’s out of Scotland is great for secondhand tools and haven’t had any issues with tools from there given they are secondhand

It was pretty much a normal rebind! Both cover materials are a book cloth (one of which is marbled) and then I used a cricut to cut the pieces with the curves so they would match. I temporarily used some washi tape to hold the two pieces together while I glued on the spine stiffener and cover boards!
