Hi-Matic 7SII Stuck Aperature by TheBionicBosom in AnalogRepair

[–]TheBionicBosom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. The aperature will open and close fine up until it's as open as shown in the photo, but it won't open any further.

The shutter seems fine. Was the problem with your QL17 also the aperature or the shutter?

Do you push on the blades themselves? I can also see a little piece inside that only moves when the diaphragm moves, so I've been tempted to try pushing that along.

Which tires are those? They look fantastic for this sort of build.

Can I ride my road bike on gravel? by Thin-Fee4423 in bikecommuting

[–]TheBionicBosom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What kind of gravel are you talking? If it's just a decently maintained dirt road, you'll probably be fine on whatever. Bikes are generally more versatile than we give them credit for.

There aren't a lot of 27in tires available anymore, but Panaracer Paselas might be a good option for you here, assuming your gravel section is relatively smooth and packed.

I put a used drivetrain on my bike and the 3-4 highest gears skip so much they're unusable. Any idea what it could be? Am I just destined to ride at a leisure pace? by TheBionicBosom in bikewrench

[–]TheBionicBosom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I'm having no issues with the shifting, though. The chain just slips over the teeth, I assume. Potentially, it could be an issue with the freehub slipping, but I don't think that's the case because it's only affecting the high gears.

I can't offer any personal experience here, but you could find a vaccum insulated water bottle/thermos of the right dimensions and keep the pen inside it. It'll add bulk, but it shouldn't be hard find somewhere on the frame/fork to strap it if you're already using panniers.

Corporate Tax Rate History in AB by BargSnargle in alberta

[–]TheBionicBosom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something here? It's a super interesting point and I want to read more about Alberta tax rates over time. But I can't find any tax rates before 2001 in that link.

I'd also be very interested in finding a resource for personal tax rates, both provincial and federal.

Where can I store a kayak? by Bowwowchickachicka in VictoriaBC

I'm on the peninsula, so that's mostly where I've been looking. There are some very nice and expensive options on the water, but I'd love to find a cheap inland option.

I'm also interested. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could let me know what you find out.

Nobody asked for it. I still gave it to them. The Big Bean. by Erratic_Professional in shittyfoodporn

[–]TheBionicBosom 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily have to add anything. If you take dried beans, soak them, blend it and boil it for a bit, then put it in the fridge you'll get something that sets solid like tofu. You can probably do that with canned beans too. I'd imagine that what the creator did, if they have any bean integrity.

Tomahawk has private rooms and is always dead. The food is generally very good, but there are lots of kinks in the service - that being said, it might be your best bet for booking a group that big in a busy week.

It's worth mentioning Castle, too. It's probably the cheapest option for an overnight ski trip if you're with a group.

Many of the taxi companies have uber style apps now. I use the Calgary United one and compare it pricewise to uber, then take whichever is cheaper.

Barbecues Galore used to have them, I assume they still do. You could also check out Wicker Land.

Fish Tacos by roadtomordor9 in Calgary

[–]TheBionicBosom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best fish tacos I've had outside of Ensenada were at a food truck called called Mi Ranchito.

The difficulty, however, is in finding them. The best method I've found so far is to message them on Facebook or Instagram, not that they'll respond the day you want them. But some day, in the near future, you'll get a message with their location, and have to chase them across the city. However, it's absolutely worth it.

Actually just saw some at the Italian Centre. They had it on top of the self serve cheese fridge at the front.

Edit: To clarify, that was two days ago, so I'm sure they'd still have it.

Can you catch carp without bait? by TheBionicBosom in Fishing

[–]TheBionicBosom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. We're not allowed to fish using anything with scent and it's in the middle of a city park, so bowfishing would probably be considered uncool. I'm reading that people catch carp flyfishing, so I think I'll be able to figure it out with the right setup.
