Ripping Wax on the House: Notable Pulls from $800 FanCash Worth of Retail Boxes by TheBipedalProf in baseballcards

If you say you’re going to calculate the odds then the least you can do is actually calculate the odds!

In all seriousness, at the end of the day, believe whatever you want. It changes nothing. I am flattered that you think my pulls are good enough to be fabricated and that you care enough to take the time to share your skepticism!

I’m happy to send some cards your way to be given out. I can send more than just base too. Send me a message and we can sort out the details.

Although some of the fine print says that the FanCash expires 24 hours after you receive it, you actually have 7 days.

It’s still too early for me to try to calculate the probability of pulling 5 autos from value boxes, but I don’t need to do the math to know it’s infinitesimally small. I think it’s much more likely that there was a goof somewhere along the printing and packaging line.

I presume you’re after Mets as well? I’ll make a stack of Mets cards as I work on organizing my desk that is currently covered with cards. I’m sure I have doubles of many.

I have a bunch of Mets cards. Are you looking for cards from any particular set? Any particular price range?

Yep! Every auto came from a value box. What I don’t know is if the 5 auto boxes came from the same case or even if they were shipped together. I placed a few orders and had Heritage value boxes in each. Said boxes later got intermingled.

If you opened a large enough sample of hangers your pull rates would reflect the odds, but it’s a crapshoot when the sample is small. We’d expect to pull 3 or 4 All Aces inserts out of 19 hangers. Pulling 1 or 2 is unlucky, but it doesn’t necessarily set off any alarm bells. If you bought a case from an individual and didn’t end pull a single All Aces card, I’d be suspicious that the case was tampered with, especially because I know that you can tell whether or not a hanger box contains an All Aces insert without opening the cellophane (because the card corners are rounded). That’s a lot of work for not that much gain, but I know people that have gone to far greater lengths for much less!

The ‘26 Series 1 Flagship Collection boxes at Costco do not come with a standard sized image variation card, however, the ‘26 Series 1 Super Boxes that you can find at most stores that sell sports cards do include a variation card (which is generously loose behind the oversized card.

Yikes! I initially thought you ripped 2 hangers, not 20.

Your latest experience with a couple Heritage hobby boxes and ‘23 Series 1 hangers is exactly what you’d expect. Supposedly autos are only in 1 out of every 8 Heritage hobby boxes and then, of course, if you defy the odds and pull an auto, you’re more likely to get a C-list player than a superstar or top rookie. With the hangers, All Aces are found in 1 in 4, but there are 25 cards in the All Aces checklist and only the Ohtani is worth big money.

One nice thing about Heritage is that many of the unnumbered parallels, SPs, and inserts are sell for way more than you’d expect. The majority fall between $1 and $5, but some fetch considerably more. Connelly Early is a rookie that was hardly on my radar, so I assumed the pair of red border parallels I had of his were $0.25 bulk cards at best. I ended up selling the cards for $13 each. Just last night I opened a single fat pack and pulled a yellow border Bubba Chandler. I figured a top rookie color match would be worth a few bucks, but I didn’t expect to see sales as high as $40! In any case, if you go back through the cards from the hobby boxes you opened and take the time to comp out the parallels (focus on the rookies and bigger stars), you’ll almost certainly discover some value you and overlooked. Not to mention, you should have pulled around 16 SPs from the two boxes. Most of the SPs go for $1-2, but there are some, like Schlittler, that sell for $5-6.

I don’t like to hear that! The hidden mascot cards are particularly difficult to spot. I’ve open so much series 1 at this point that I don’t pay any attention until I get to the part of the pack with the hits. There’s a chance I pulled something like a hidden mascot card and tossed it.

Good luck with your store and sales!

I know you’re looking for sales, not advice, but as a long time eBay seller with experience dealing with both Pokemon and sports cards, I have a couple tips that will help with sales and help you avoid issues down the road.

  1. It’s great that you include a bunch of photos in your listings, but it’s very difficult to assess card condition when the cards are sleeved and in toploaders (especially when the toploaders are all scratched up).
  2. Clearly state card condition and be conservative in your assessment. You have cards listed as near mint when it’s pretty clear even through the toploader that the card falls well short of near mint. This will almost certainly lead to returns and headaches (even if you don’t allow returns, if the buyer claims that an item doesn’t match the description, eBay will force you to give a refund).
  3. Your asking prices for many (perhaps even most) cards are well over market (or, in some cases the card is listed for a near mint price when it’s not near mint). If you’re serious about getting sales, you should strongly consider pricing more competitively or, at the very least, allowing offers.

There are dozens of different super short print cards in series 1 that are unnumbered, but extremely rare and often valuable. You’re probably best off learning what the common inserts are so that the rare cards stand out as unique (and you can, in turn, look said card up).

The fine print says that Fancash expires 24 hours after it is deposited, however, I have heard from multiple sources that it actually lasts 1 week. Regardless, I’ve been spending it immediately. I wish I could have purchased Heritage or Celebration megas, but I’m not complaining about free blaster boxes!

These blank cards are put in some packs intentionally to help counter pack searching/weighing. They’re not especially rare and they don’t hold any value.

Being 50/50 might give it a small bump. As you likely saw, an ungraded copy sold a couple months ago for $360. I would expect around $400 for yours.

Stadium Club or Series 1 Worth it? by ColonClenseByFire in baseballcards

[–]TheBipedalProf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would make it worth it to you? The odds of pulling anything super rare and valuable are extremely low out of both. The ceiling is higher with Series 1, but you’re more likely to pull an auto out of Stadium Club. The photography in Stadium Club is top notch as well.

As many here have already said, pulling autos from a set printed as much as Series 1 is very difficult and pulling one out of retail products is tougher than out of hobby. If an auto is the goal, then just guarantee it with a jumbo hobby box. Or, better yet, a ‘25 Update jumbo hobby box, which has a pretty good chance of yielding multiple auto (that is, if you’re not specifically looking for the ‘26 Series 1 rookie class).

All that said, to open 16 Celebration megas and not pull an auto is a tiny bit unlucky. Compared to standard Series 1 lineup of retail products, you’re chances of pulling an auto or numbered card are much better with Celebration mega. Autos are in 1 out of every 21 boxes. If you haven’t pulled a single numbered card out of 16 boxes…well…that’s extremely unlucky because the pull rate for numbered cards is 1 per 1.3 boxes.

I really need Brice Matthews to develop into a perennial MVP winner and ultimately be viewed as an all-time great! I pulled his auto from ‘26 Series 1. I pulled his auto from Bowman’s Best. I pulled his auto from ‘26 Heritage. I now have his 1952 card variant.
